WALT WHITLOCK 1949 - 1971 PILOT, CHIEF PILOT, DIRECTOR-FLIGHT OPERATIONS GSW DAL DEN I was leafing through the Obituary page today and although I can't supply any specific date info, on many of the pilot's listed there is no info at all. My memory is far from perfect but I thought I'd pass along what I remember about some of these guys. Walt Whitlock: Walt was the Chief Pilot at CEN when I hired on. My previous job was at AAL in LGA where the carpet was deep, the walls were paneled and the chiefs all wore Brooks Bros. suits. I walked into the CEN dispatch office where this guy wearing blue denim wash pants, a white T-shirt and deck shoes was stretched out on a counter made of parts crates and swapping jokes with the dispatcher (Ross Conner). When I told them I was there to interview with the Chief Pilot, Walt put on a serious face and crawled off the counter and we went down the hall to his spartan office. He told me later that he hadn't been informed I was on my way over and I was only another guy off the street to him. After I left, he found out I was ex-AAL and they got me back the next day and hired me. Walt was a good pilot and I enjoyed working with him on the CV-240 after he went back on the line. Walt fought a extended battle with cancer but couldn't beat it. -H.A.
