The Classic Western TV Series

1965 - 1969

Barbara Stanwyck portrays Victoria Barkley, head of the Barkley family, a wealthy ranch clan in California's Central Valley in the 1870s. The Barkley holdings, all 30,000 acres, include mines, vineyards, orchards, cattle and property in Mexico, all of which make for versatile story lines. "The Big Valley" was the first and only Western TV series built around a strong female character.
