Without a doubt, Pakistan's greatest Cricket Captain..Imran Khan.
An excellent allrounder who began his career as a teenager aginst England
in 1971. Imran went on to become one of the top fast bowlers in Pakistan
Cricket. But his real success story came as a Captain. Bringing
together the Pakistan cricket team to put up dazzling performances time
after time, and maintaining harmony within the team, was his biggest
achievement. He was also responssible in nurturing a number of
today's Pakistan stars, such as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis,Inzamam Ul Haq,
and Moin Khan. A brilliant bowler who could generate pace and bounce off any track,
Imran was also an orthodox bastman who generally played straight
and was very effective in dealing with the rising delivery. Early on,
in his career, his batting was of secondary importance to the team,
as Pakistan lacked a quality fast bowler. However, with the arrival
of Wasim Akram, Imran began to concentrate a bit more on his batting,
and was a useful number 5 or 6 for Pakistan. His prime achievment was
leading Pakistan to it's first ever World Cup Win in Melbourne,Australia
against England, in 1992. One of the main reasons why Pakistan won
the World Cup was because of the never say die attitude that Imran
and his Vice Captain, Javed Miandad had instilled in the youngsters,
and the tremendous team spirit that could be found in the 1992 team.
Today, Imran has entered the field of politics in Pakistan. His
entry into Politics has been an utter failure, with his party losing
each and every seat they contested on, during the last elections.
But political failures aside, Imran has done a lot of charity work
in Lahore and set up the Shaukat-Khanum Memorial Hospital, which was
named after his mother. The hospital treats cancer patients in Pakistan
and was built largely due to the fan following that Imran has in
Pakistan and across the world. He may not have suceeded in politics,
but without a doubt, he was a sure success as a Pakistan Cricketer
and a Pakistan Test Captain. A true Cricketing Legend..Imran Khan.
