JROTC COURSE REQUIREMENTS


ALL JROTC Cadets must demonstrate that he/she has achieved a satisfactory level of proficiency in all subjects presented in the classroom and leadership labs. This proficiency will be measured by written and oral examination and, through observation by JROTC instructors. Cadets will receive a grade in accordance with the grading policy of the Rapides Parish School board and Pineville High School standards.

In addition to the above requirements, each cadet must perform a least five (5) hours of public service activities in their community, church, scout unit, or other service organization. This service must be documented by an adult leader of the organization for which the service was information: a) Name of organization b) Cadets Name c) Number of Hours performed d) Project or work performed by the cadet e) telephone number of adult leader. Additionally, all service must be approved by one on the JROTC Instrutors.

Each cadet must also participate to the best of his/her ability in all Cadet Challenge activities. It is recognized that not all cadets posses a high level of physical ability however, a positive attitude must be demonstrated in order to receive credit for this requirement.

Cadets must participate in wearing the uniform on required inspection days and all JROTC activities designated by the JROTC Instructors. Inspections will normally be conducted on Wednesday of each week. In all cases, cadet will be given sufficient notification in order to prepare for activities requiring the wearing of the uniform.


JROTC CLASS RULES

GENERAL: These rules are for the safety and protection of each cadet in the Pineville JROTC Program and to provide the best learning environment possible. All cadets are responsible for abiding by ther rules of Pineville High School as specified in the Pineville High School Student Handbook. In addition to those rules and regulations, cadets are also responsible for the following:

1. Cadets will arrive to class on time, in proper attire and prepared to participate in the days activities.

2. Prior to leaving class, all cadets will be knowledgeable of the requiremants for the next days assignments/activities.

3.When the trady bell rings, the following procedure will apply:
A. Come to attention at your desk.
B. Answer appropriately when your name is called for the roll. (i.e. "Hear Sir" "Hear Ma'am" or "Hear Sergeant")


4. When responding to a question or wanting to make a comment, you must first raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking. questions and/or comments are encouraged.

5. At no time will a cadet sit on a desk or lean back in a chair.

6. No horse play or loud talking will be tolerated in the JROTC Building.

7. The JROTC Office is OFF LIMITS to all cadets. It is a place of business and will be treated as such. If you feel you have business which needs to be conducted in the office, you must first come to attention outside the door, knock on the door and wait to be invited in before entering. When in the office, you will conduct yourself in the appropriate military manner at all times. At no time will you sit down, unless invited to do so.

8. The telephone in teh JROTC office is an Official U.S. Government instrument and is to be used only for official business. As such, cadets are not permitted to make or receive calls on this instrumant except for arranging transportation home after a trip or after practice. At all times, permission will be received from either the SAI or AI prior to making call.

9. IF the phone is ringing and you are told to answer it, you must respond in the following manner, "Pineville High School JROTC Office, Cadet (your name) speaking. MAy I help you Sir or Ma'am?"

10. GUM, CANDY AND BEVERAGES WILL NOT BE CONSUMED IN THE CLASS ROOM.

11.When a cadet is absent from class, it is their responsibility to find out what they missed and what needs to be made up. In the event a test is missed, it must be made up before teh end of the grading period. However if, due to extenuating circumstances, it cannot be made up during that time, it MUST be made up prior to the end of the next grading period. Make up tests will normannly be administered before or after school. It is the cadet's responsibility, not the instructors, to ensure that all work is made up !

12. Cadets are excepted to conduct themselves in appropriate manner at all times during the school day.

The above rules are very general and not inclusive of all areas.

The folowing supplies are required for JROTC:

A. 5 Subject Notebook

B. Black Shoe Polish (Paste not Liquid)/

C.Brass Polish

D. Heel & Sole Dressing

E. Pencils/Pens


EXTRA-CURRICLUAR ACTIVITIES


There are many extra-curricular activities to you here at Pineville High School. These activities are an excellent way for you to mature and grow on your way to becoming a better citizen. By participating as a memberof a team, you are developing a sense of teamwork, self-confidence, self-discipline and good sportsmanship. We in the ROTC Department would like to encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and participate when and wherever it is possible. The ROTC Program offers the following activities for you to participate: 1) Orienteering, 2) Rifle Team, 3) Color Guard, 4) Drill Team, and 5) Physical Fitness Teams.

If you choose to become a member of one of these teams, it may require you to travel out town to compete. Transportation is provided by the ROTC Department ,but you will be required to pay for any meals or, loging if the trip is one that requires an overnight stay. It will definitely require a large investment of your time after school and on accasional weekends. In addition, you must provide the ROTC office with a notarized letter giving the Instructors permission to seek emergency medical treatment in the event of illness or injury. You may also be required to purchase some type of school insurance.

However, realizing the numerous benefits of your participation in ROTC extra-curricular activities, we still must not lose sight of why you are attending school. That is, to get a quality education and to finish high school. With that in mind, the following rules apply. You must:

1. Maintain a C average grade or better in ROTC.

2. Maintain a cumulative average of C (2.0) or better in all of your classes.

3. Be dependable at all times and demonstrate good character.

4. Have school insurance or proof of insurance through your family.

If you fail to meet the standards set forth in the first two rules, you may practice as a member of a team but, you will not be allowed to perform or compete until you have raised your grades up to teh standard. If you, at any time, violate rule number 3, you will face POSSIBLE dismissal from the team. All disciplinary actions will be recommended by the team captain(s) to the ROTC Instructor for final action.
