The Department of Radiation Oncology is part of the Institute of Oncology, comprising departments of oncology research, medical oncology and radiation oncology. The Department has programs linked with several adjacent hospitals, and a strong research and development program. Its equipment includes a Siemens Primus running with Prime View and Simtec, a Siemens Mevatron, a Varian 1800 and a Pantak Orthovoltage unit. A Radionics mini MLC is used at present with the Primus to carry out stereotactic IMRT treatments. A wide range of brachytherapy treatments is undertaken some of which treatments use remote afterloading interstitial systems for gynaecological brachytherapy. Physics resources include a Wellhofer computerised data acquisition system, a wide range of dosimeters, two automated TLD systems and a mechanical workshop.
