MY MARYLAND VACATION

Well folks, here is the long promised page(s) about my Maryland vacation!!

This California gal finally made it east of Arizona!

I had a wonderful two weeks, and will remember them always. Regan's family made me feel right at home, and her friends were warm and friendly.

The first week we were there ... drove all over the place .. Regan showing me all kinds of things.

Her folks live in the north eastern part of the state. Green rolling hills, and lots of horse farms (we call them ranches out west)!.

It still amazes me how people drive back and forth between states.
In California, we get excited when we see an out of state license plate on a car.
Of course, many of the eastern states would fit nicely within California's borders!

I learned quickly that Maryland is rich in history, and much of it ~ before California was even a state!

The main thing I had wanted to see were the wild ponies at Assateague, and I did!
I also saw my first Cardinal .. have seen alot of pictures, but never the "real" thing.
First day there ~ also saw my first GROUNDHOG!! I was sooo impressed!!

Forgot to mention ... daffodils were all over the place!
In people's yards, and along all the freeways (or expressways .. as they are called in the east)!!
I thought they were the state flower, but they aren't .. just pretty!

They say pictures are worth a thousand words.
Well, here are the pictures of my vacation ... along with a thousand or so words from me! :-)

Hee hee!!
Wanted to start off by showing you the farm I "bought"!
Actually, it was bought by the owner of the Baltimore Orioles!
It's sooo big ~ needed several camera angles to get it all.
There aren't any horses yet, but there are lots of Canadian Geese!!

More of "my farm" .. I dream BIG!!

This is what I saw each morning ~ while drinking my coffee on the back steps.

If I had coffee on the deck, I saw this!
Drank alot of coffee!

This is the Gunpowder River.
Regan rode horses around here as a kid.
Good fishing from what I understand.

Another picture of the Gunpowder.
Beautiful river!

These were some houses we saw.
I thought they were really pretty.

When driving around ~ saw this horse farm.
We had to take pictures of all the babies!

We went to the Amish country also.
HAD to have a picture of this

Visited the Baltimore Inner Harbor also.
Rained off and on that day.
Saw the aquarium, and ate Maryland crab cakes at Phillips!

Another picture of the Inner Harbor.
We did all the tourist stuff!
It is really pretty here.
There was even an old World War II submarine that you could go through.

We went to a Steeplechase!
This was the Grand National

We froze to death, but I really enjoyed it.

HERE ARE THE PICTURES OF MY FAVORITE PART OF THE VACATION!
I ENJOYED EVERYTHING, BUT THIS IS WHAT "MADE" THE VACATION!

After driving for over 3 hrs, we got to Assateague Island. These little guys are actually Sika deer.
Which are oriental elk! Tiny little deer!
I was told later ~ that we were lucky to see them.
Normally "shy" little critters, but this mom and baby stayed around for quite awhile.

MY PONIES!!!

My life is complete!!

We saw them all over the place!
There seemed to be several groups strolling around.
We followed this group for quite awhile.
One of them we named "Brat Man".
He was always nipping someone, and just raising cain!

They came right up to the car!
Regan got this picture of me reaching out to pet them!

Just munching away!
One of the group we were following.

Several of the ponies we were following.

This is another group that we found on the sand dunes.

This is Brat Man!
He was determined to get in the bushes!
Must have been something very tastey in there!

SO THERE ARE MY PONIES!

HAVE MORE PICTURES OF THEM ~ BUT MY FAMILY GOT BORED SEEING ALL OF THEM ~ SO I DIDN'T WANT TO BORE YOU ALSO!!

I've mentioned on several of my pages ~ I LOVE clouds!

I had asked Regan's dad to order me some thunderstorms while I was visiting!
The second night I was there ~ we had a thunderstorm!

I was in heaven!

Not at all what I'm used to seeing.
Rolling thunder ~ lightening bolts!

It was great!
For good measure ~ we had another storm two days later!

I had to include these next two pictures.
The clouds are beautiful in Maryland.

Aren't they beautiful??!!

So ~ there there you go ~ a "virtual Maryland vacation"!
I hope I didn't bore you to tears!

I can't wait to go back again.
I have an "open invitation" ~ and I still have to get a picture of a groundhog, or cardinal!

I want to thank Regan and her family for such a wonderful time.
