This page is going to be a gallery of my favorite "Wild Ones" ~ starting with the wolf. I enjoy reading about them, and watching nature specials on television about them.
I think they are really special. I have never heard ~ or seen them in the wild, but have friends that have.
I love reading all the Indian folklore about wolves. They were such an important part of their lives and culture.
There are all kinds of pages on the wolves ~ especially about the Wolf Relocation Programs going on with the government.
I don't want to get into all of that ... just feel they are entitled to live free, and not have to worry about getting shot.

Another species of wild ones that I love!
They travel in family pods ~ several generations stay together through out their life time.
We are just beginning to learn about them. Didn't know alot about them when they were caught for Marine World and Sea World. Now we know how strong their family ties are.
Several groups are trying to get these places to turn them loose. The ones in those small little tanks ~ should be!
We have a friend that lives near Olympia Washington. Going to go up there and see him one of these days. Want to go into Puget Sound and watch the pods that live there.
I lived in Washington for several months ~ a hundred years ago ~ before I became interested in the orcas. Sorry now I didn't investigate them then!
Found out that off of Monterey California ~ the orcas are sometimes found ~ hunting the Calif Gray Whale on its trip back from Baja. Going after the babies! I know this is nature, but I don't have to see it!

Virtual Whale Watching

I love all cats, but the "big" cats are special. It makes me giggle when I see the big cats doing things my house cats do all the time!
I decided to put the cougar on my page. She is called everything from Cougar to Mt. Lion ~ and a few names I can't mention on a "family page"!
Hunting for these cats was banned in California a few years back. Since then, the population has grown. Now there are problems ~ people have been attacked, and some dogs end up missing!
People are building homes deeper and deeper into their territory, and then don't have the sense to use precautions! It was something we voted on a few years ago ~ to start hunting again. It was voted down!
I know we have cougars in my area, but I've never seen one. I'd like to though!!
My cousin ran into one while riding her horse near Sacramento, California. Came as quite a surprise from what I'm told!
I've even seen "public announcements" on television ~ giving instructions on what to do if you see one!
Guess it's a fact of life ~ as more people need housing and space ~ the animals are shoved back further and further.
Happened to the wolf, and now the cougar.
Man has to rule supreme ~ I some times wonder at the logic of that!

Info on Cougars

Everyone loves these guys! They always look so happy and carefree. Surfing in front of ships, and playing in the surf off of the beaches.
Some one told me there is a place in Florida where you can make reservations and swim with them! I'd love to do that some day.
I've decided I need my own island! Then I put all the animals I love on there ~ and the ones that live in the ocean ~ can come and visit!
Any one out there have an island to sell ~ cheap! LOL ~ that would be my idea of paradise!!

Dolphin Fun

Finally ~ my favorite little guys! Another happy little critter! Think if I could "come back" it would be as a river otter. These guys know how to have fun ~ in a big way!
I've seen films with them hunting for fish, and playfully sliding down snow covered hills!
This is finally a "wild one" that I've seen in its own natural home!
The kids and I spent one summer at my folks cabin at Lake Pillsbury. One morning we got to the lake really early ~ and an otter popped his head up out of the water, and stared right at me! I was actually speechless (which for me, is quite a feat!). We watched him cruise around the docks looking for fish, and when he got bored ~ watched him swim away. It was the highlight of my summer.
These little guys are all over the place. From what I've read, I think every state has them. So far, people haven't crowded them out ~ and I hope it never happens. They are a fun and happy little critter ~ and I've never heard of them attacking anyone! LOL

Well folks, now you've seen some of the animals I enjoy reading about, and watching on television. Most animals are special to me. They have their own "code of ethics", and what most of them need is some understanding from us.
Ranchers blow their tops that the wolves are killing their livestock. From what I've read, the government will pay for any animals that are killed by wolves.
People raise cain because cougars are spotted near their homes. Well, if you buy a house out in the "sticks", what do you expect? Just use common sense, and they shouldn't present a problem. Heck ~ I have trouble with raccoons! Noisey little buggers ~ screaming and fighting in the tree at 2 in the morning! Lovely way to wake up ~ scares me to death!
