Why the need for medical care? According to the American Heart Association it is estimated that on an average day in the United States alone, 1,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest. It is also believed that more than 100,000 deaths could be prevented with proper treatment. The average response time under ideal conditions for an ambulance providing Advanced Life Support ranges from 10 to 12 minutes. With the brain experiencing permanent death longer than four to six minutes, these response times account for a nationwide survivability rate of less than 5%. Trauma is the leading killer of persons under the age of 34. It accounts for more than 140,000 lives each year in the United States. Unfortunately, it is these and other medical injuries, that we can not pick or choose the time when they will occur. We can choose the OUTCOME!
