This course follows the syllabus of the Scout & Guide Association First Response course but is aimed at leaders undertaking activities in the outdoor environment and covers some of difficulties encountered by the first reponder when “off site”. The course is undertaken at our activity & training centre “Ferny Crofts” in the New Forest. In addition to the basic syllabus the course also covers heat and cold related injuries such as Hypo and Hyperthermia which are is now required of Form M applicants.
The weekend course is aimed at those who are regularly taking parties of young people into what the Scout Association term “Potentially Hazardous Country”. (e.g. Hill Walking, Caving, Rock Climbing, Expeditions etc.), but is open to anyone who has a genuine interest in more focused First Aid training for activities outdoors. The course will be one of the First Aid “for Mountaineers” style courses possibly the Ieuan Jones (Bangor - Scheme) or it may be an equivalent level course designed for those operating in the outdoors. The course will be of a level acceptable to the MLTB for MLA, SPSA, MIA, MIC, EML etc. The course will be intensive and will cover quite an advance syllabus. It is recommended that a basic knowledge of first aid is acquired before attending this course.
