Weekends are held in various mountain location in the UK so that Leaders and Venture Scouts can gain experience of different mountain conditions under the unstruction of experienced mountaineers. No prior experience is necessary. The director of these courses will hold the MLA (Summer).
This course is not a requirement of the ML award scheme itself but it acts as a reminder of the key elements of the training course prior to an assessment. This refresher course is intended for people who have undertaken their ML training course and who would like to brush up their skill with a refresher of the ML syllabus and increase their practical experience prior to assessment. The director of this course will hold the MLA.
This course is intended for people who have undertaken the MLTB training course or equivalent and have logged experience of undertaking mountaineering activities. Applications for Form M Hillwalking assessment should be sent to the HMT administrator (see below). The Assessors on this course are appointed by the County Commissioner and hold (as a minimum) the MLA (Summer). These assessments can also be undertaken on a weekend organised by the applicant. One of the county assessors can join the trip and will assume responsibility for the mountain day/expedition. The suitability of the venue, route and party for the assessment are to be agreed beforehand with the assessor. Please note that an assessment of navigation in poor conditions shall be part of the assessment and, if weather conditions determine, this may require assessment after dusk. For further information contact the County Mountaineering Advisor. (All costs incurred by the assessor shall be paid for by the applicant).
