Hampshire Scouts' Mountain Team is centre number 0912 approved by the Mountain Leader Training Board to run Mountainwalking Leader Award Training and Assessment courses.
This is the recommended training course by Hampshire Scouts' Mountain Team for aspirant Form M applicants who wish to lead young people in the hills in the UK under summer conditions. It is recommended that applicants have a minimum of 12 days experience in the mountains.
The HMT course format consists of three weekend modules;
• Mountain Navigation
• Security on Steep Ground
• Mountain Expedition
This course forms part of a progression for those going on to gain the formal qualification in hillwalking (MLTB Summer Mountainwalking Leader Award). All three modules need to be completed to comprise the MLTB training course. Once completed and adequate experience is gained, a practical assessment can be undertaken for the MLA.
The course follows the syllabus as set down by the MLTB. Please note that the course fees do not include registration with the MLTB which is a requirement if your
course is to be recognised nationally and recorded with the MLTB. For further information contact the MLTB.
On completion of the course your logbook will be endorsed and, having gained appropriate experience, you may undertake the assessment for the MLA through HMT or with any other course provider approved by the MLTB.
