Manning A Voice Of Reason

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 1998) -- NFL quarterback Peyton Manning will answer calls from parents of Tennessee school students approximately 4 million times between now and the end of this school year. He won't answer the calls in person, of course, but Manning's voice will be the voice that greets callers to Lesson Line.

Teachers and other school officials use Lesson Line to leave recorded messages for parents on topics such as homework assignments, field trip details, study tips, sports practice schedules and more.

Lesson Line is offered free to all K-12 schools -- public, private and parochial -- in First Tennessee markets across Tennessee. During the last school year parents across the state placed close to 4 million calls to Lesson Line. Manning is greeting Lesson Line callers as part of his spokesperson role for First Tennessee Bank, and he also will represent First Tennessee in Lesson Line and product advertisements on radio and TV and in newspapers.

Manning was last year's University of Tennessee quarterback and this year's first-round NFL draft pick for the Indianapolis Colts.

In what some have called the "greatest pass he ever made," Manning passed up the NFL draft for one year so he could complete his college education. "Lesson Line really supports the education process," said Manning. "I believe you can't do enough to promote success in school, and to do that well, parents must get involved. Lesson Line helps them do just that."
