I have heard it called "A celebration of life in the face of Death"
Or "We are fooling death into thinking that he has already visited
our shire" and we were careering a banner that reads
"If I be Dead or seem to be, then Death it can not come to me."
It was discovered that Death might be able to read,
so The Danse stopped carrying the banner.
I have been told by other actors that the Danse Macabre takes the
Negative out of the faire, or that it's is the best way to let go
of a loved one...
We are all these things and more. We're a group of musicians and
dancers that give the public our best representation of what Dance Macabre
would have been in those times. Our history shows that all cultures
have Death rituals. Well this is the English one, I believe that it
come from the Day of the Dead. This is how the peasants dealt with the
death of so many people. As far as I know Dance Macabre was a
morally play that came about after the Black Plague hit France.
This is where the Danse starts,
It's a way of dealing with Death, of letting go, of coping with
unimaginable or unknowable, through song and movement.
