The Creation Of A New Game : The year 1891 and the place was the International Training School of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Springfield , Massachusetts. The school would later become Springfield College . James Naismith is the man who invented the game ..

How Did It Happen : Winter came and the were no longer interest in the usual cold weather activities : marching , gymnastics and calisthenics . After a long time of thinking and trying games Mr. Naismith decided that the goal should be up high . So he began writing down rules for his new game , he asked a janitor at the school if there were any kind of boxes that could be used for goals. What he got was a pair of peach baskets.He nailed them to a balcony at each end of the gym. And in December 1891 , the game of basketball was officially born .
