Comcast New Channel Poll

6/17/99 NSWA Wrestling returns to Flint! The legendary Superfly Snuka will be among the many superstars participating. Also autographs will take place at the intermission. The Crow won't be back in syndication. That makes 4 series on WB 20 not returning. But WDWB will have Drew Carey reruns.

6/16/99 We're back!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the summer edition of the TVBEAT. We are expanding like you wouldn't believe. The offices are expanding. So here's what's coming up for the fall season. Air America, Special Ops Force, Viper, and Highlander The Raven are not returning. But this fall look for Amazon, Your Big Break, Relic Hunter, Beastmaster, and Lost World. Don't forget The Profiler which will air reruns on the Weekend. WNEM5 is airing Divorce Court and Martin Short this fall. Also look for Star Trek: Voyager to get an improving time slot on the weekends. WLNS airs Judge Mathis at 10am replacing Howie Mandel. WEYI NBC25 brings back WWF Wrestling at 1pm Saturdays starting this September. Also WEYI will be airing Later Today. WSMH gets Third Rock From The Sun and Drew Carey. WTCF has changed formats briefly. Although it wasn't announced to the public, the change was planned long in advance. It was noticable when 100.5 didn't add many new artists to its schedule. Nonetheless, look for a dance type format coming from WTCF. Its new slogan is All New All the Time. Rollerjam has been renewed by TNN for 40 more weeks. The second season kicks off September 10th. Rollergames returns to the airwaves in Spring of 2000. Let the wheel competition begin.

5/16/99 We're preparing for the big fall season. We'll keep you posted!
5/01/99 Big Scoops Big News. It's a big Saturday. What's with Rollerjam? Well TNN has a 26 week commitment to the program.
That means that after July 9th, a decision will be made to continue it.
Contrary to what is being posted on other websites, Rollerjam has helped increase the young male demographic. Plus, starting April 2nd, Rollerjam moved to 9pm EST. RAW and Nitro got a new competitor on April 26th, as TNN started airing Rollerjam Megamatch.Detroit gets its Game Show Network.Comcast has added GSN to four systems in the Detroit area: metropolitan Detroit, southeast Michigan (including Flint), Taylor and Grosse Pointe.
So what new channels are coming to Comcast in Flint? The top two contenders right now would be ESPN Classic and Romance Classics. What would be cool is for Comcast to add WWJ CBS62 or M2 or FX. After 7+ years, Comcast channel 17 no longer carries Take No Prisoners. Take No Prisoners has been dropped due to conflict of interest. Actually, the little Christmas concert episode has a little something to do with it. The new replacement is The Week That Was. It's a weekly look at what has happened. It's promised that it's controversial.
4/10/99
Want controversy? Try MTV's Total Request Live. This Wednesday, Norm MacDonald was on promoting his new hit, The Norm Show, Apparently, he said a few vulgar things that the show was pulled for back to back Daria episodes at the last minute. Personally, this is what MTV needs.
MTV's Spring Break coverage was the worst yet. It seems as if MTV was appealing its coverage to the high schoolers and not the college crowd. Jesse Camp's leaving MTV this April. It looks like The Howie Mandel Show is in trouble. The ratings have not increased and remained flat at a 1.4. Ouch. Speaking of ratings, Late Night With Conan O' Brien on March 25th received a 3.0 overnight rating which tied with Late Show with David Letterman.

3/23/99 Not much has been happening in the TV industry locally until now. Scott Schaeffer has left ABC12. Michael J. Thorpe has joined the ABC12 news staff. PAX TV adds Supermarket Sweep and Shop Til You Drop to its lineup starting April 5th. TVLAND is adding a cartoon block on Saturday mornings. Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place will air for 3 weeks on Friday nights at 9pm. Sabrina, The Teenage Witch airs at 8pm. WDWB has confirmed Blind Date for its fall lineup. Look for several changes happening at the Game Show Network. The Dating Game is being downgraded from 10:30pm weeknights to 1:30am on the weekend late nights. $100,000 Pyramid replaces Jokers' Wild weekdays. Inquizator gets a 12noon airing. Family Feud replaces primetime Tattletales at 8:30pm.

2/19/99 Sam Merrill leaves WNEM for The ABC Pittsburgh affiliate.

1/31/99 It's been reported that WGN will only be a WB affiliate locally. Courtesy of the Electronic Media Daily Fax WB Network CEO Jamie Kellner informed affiliates last week that WB programming would be taken off the satellite feed of WGN-TV in Chicago.  The network had been using WGN to reach markets where it didn't have affiliates but, Kellner said, by pulling programming out of WGN more cable operators would want to launch WB's WeB project, which virtual stations on cable. WeB is available in markets 100-210.

1/28/99 Many bits of info here and there. Locally, here's a few of the new shows that will air this fall. WSMH has signed Relic Hunter. WWJ is airing Your Big Break. WNEM channel 5 has agreed to air Divorce Court. WKBD has Battle Dome. (I have no idea what it is, but it sounds interesting.) WXMI picks up The Lost World and Beastmaster. Due to WXMI adding news at 10pm, their syndicated 10pm programs are being scattered around the place. WJBK FOX2 is renewing Married... With Children reruns, COPS, and Ricki Lake. They're also getting Montel Williams which leaves WDIV. Plus, they agreed to air Wild America. WXYZ is adding Peter Benchley's Amazon. For WeB viewers in Lansing, look for the Lost World to start this fall. WKBD has dropped Sports Xtra in favor of S-TV Detroit, a new local sports program. Malibu CA has been picked up for another season. Earth: Final Contact will be around for season 3 and 4. Working, however, doesn't look like it will make it for season 3. The program won't air during those crucial February sweeps. COMEDY CENTRAL: C2 announced some of the upcoming season schedule. Look for the Man Show with Jimmy Kimmell and Adam Corolla. Upright Citizens Brigade, Bob & Margaret, Win Ben Stein's Money, South Park, and The Daily Show will be back with new stuff. From my postings at 1wrestling.com, there has to be a secret deal with the WWF and FOX. Too many signs show that there is a deal. FOX affiliates were faxed about the possibility of WWF Shotgun Saturday Night replacing Mad TV. Aaron Barnhart even mentioned this in his late show news column.

1/25/99 Due to technical difficulties, the update on the 22nd didn't load. Comcast info: It appears that a member of Comcast's channel 17 public access group tried to make money off of a taping of a high school Christmas concert. According to an Atherton High School newsletter, tapes of the program using high tech Comcast Cablevision equipment would be on sale during the concert. This is, however, highly illegal. Rule number 3 states that no profit should be made upon usage of Comcast equipment. The result of this situation is that someone will be suspended 90 days for this. Could that be why Take No Prisoners hasn't been on the air in 1999? Draw your own conclusions. ROLLERJAM: A representative at WSL tells us that close to 3 million people witnessed the premiere. Good news there. Periodically, check this page for news and info about the upcoming fall season.

1/21/99 Another new network? August 29th, Bohbot starts its own kids network. They're going to be airing 24 weekly hours of kids type programming. Some of the shows offered include Sonic The Hedgehog and Roswell. GAMETIME: Game shows are slowly making a comeback. This fall, look for Family Feud, Let's Make a Deal, more Match Game and more Hollywood Squares. PAX Stuff: PAX has given Great Day America a facelift. Marc Summers and Marianne Curan (When Did That Happen?, The first casualty ever of the Game Show Network,) is the host.

1/20/99 So how are the new syndicated shows doing? Stargate SG-1 leads with a 3.1. V.I.P is averaging a 2.9. Mortal Kombat comes in with a 2.9. The Crow gets 2.6. According to the Nielsen folks, that's what it looks like. Rumblings & Ramblings: The WWF and FOX plan to announce some sort of deal. WCRZ is paying close attention to the Arbitrons. If they drop beyond 4th place, look for a possible format change. To boost the sagging Banana ratings, Bob & Tom has been added to the morning block. Former Baker grad Stu Allen is working for the afternoon on WCRZ. Comcast is thinking of adding WWJ to its lineup. That's Detroit's 62 CBS Detroit.   Wrestling has in fact returned to Flint. March 14th the IMA will be host to NSWA's Wrestling Invasion. TVBEAT will be there. ROLLERJAM: New York beats Florida 25-23. So far the show looks pretty good, but 2 hours is too long. PISTONS ON TV: THE Detroit Pistons Weekly returns Sundays at 12:05 on WDIV. America's Dumbest Criminals gets shifted around the Sunday lineup. FUN, FUN Channel 17 has started a website for it's popular game of the week program. Just go here. Put 2 and 2 together folks.

1/19/99 We're back! It's been a while, but here's an update. WJBK is picking up Montel Williams and Divorce Court for the 1999 fall season. WDIV will be dropping Montel for Dr. Joy. Leeza is being dropped from NBC. Paramount will syndicate it in the fall. Comcast is making more changes to its lineup. CMT is being dropped for Great American Country at channel 36. TV FOOD NETWORK is added at channel 78. Home Shopping Network is replacing America's Store at channel 71. Q2 is being dropped latenights from channel 19 for Style, a new fashion channel by E! Now if they would add WWJ Detroit's 62 or M2.To congratulate or complain to programming, contact 235-7680. This hasn't been reported to the Flint Journal yet. WZPX is airing same day UPN programming at 11pm-1am weeknights. ROLLERJAM: TNN started RollerJam January 15th at 8pm. Ken Resnick, a former WWF wrestling announcer, provides play-by-play. Updates on programs are at the bottom of this page. Final note: Wrestling will return to FLINT!
