The
Peace:
Two fantasy worlds: Betwixt - no reality one can touch. Only knowledge another reality exists; reinforced by visitors & such - the city by the sea, nestled between mountainous gnarled toes. The foothills of a great spirit - Byron Bay is where everybody goes. The beach & common are a congregation of alternative culture, so bold; & others looking for an escape; where only spirit can touch soul. Neither faction embrace the other, it's not the motivation yet, both are furtively friendly toward this enigma's inclination. And escape you can, for the furtherest tip of the eastern border boasts, a lighthouse, symbolic of candescence, of the natural order. Where simplicity reigns on the one hand, among mixed folklore of olde. On the other side of the coin, is wealth's fixed smile - twofold. In between there is no existance, of a reality most embrace. Just an empty void that opposes routine; far from establishments race. The rat race, exempt from Byrons aura yet, its centre reflects desire. Indulgent music; food; entertainment; exultation before fire expires. And people from that third world are drawn to the 'Cape of senses' where energy & renewal reign; still, many write it off to expenses. They come; often more than once - to just, touch the non existant before returning to reality, their world - ruled by insistence. And when they go Byron nestles - to its cosy established shelf. To partake in the friuts of its labour, provided by tourist wealth. The inhabitants think of the strangers, as friendly aliens on 'biz' & welcome the low season; spiritual renewing - the peace our Byron is. 23 January 1999 Robyn Anne Pace
