This year in science we have been doing a section on electronics. We learned about certain components and also made circuits containing these. The first activity we did was making an electro-magnet. To do this we needed a power pack, a digital voltmeter, 4 nails and a coil of wire. We attached the wire in such a way that the four nails had electric current passed through them and so were magnetised. This enabled the nails to pick up paper clips. The more the voltage coming out of the power pack, the more paper clips were picked up. During electronics we made a radio, a water indicator(a lie detector), and a light flasher. Summary for light flasher. Electonic capacitors can be charged and discharged. This circuit makes use of charging and discharging. The currents of electricity turn the transistors on and off alternatly (like on top of a police car.) Summary for water indicator. In this circuit the transistor acts like a switch. In dry soil, the resistance between the probes is very high; hence the transistor receives little or no base current and cannot turn on. We did try a sound effects circuit but it was not successful
