We came to class; some excited, some nervous. It was the day of dissection. We started the day in a calm manner, but as the time lead closer and closer to the dissection we felt the butterflies growing. The time came. We gathered around our science teacher to listen to instructions. Then we collected our instruments for the dissection. The shirts we used were smelly and dirty, just right for our coming job. We entered the courtyard and fussed over the squid. Some were big, some were small. The point of this excercise was to find the requested body parts, including the: beak, ink sack, poo sack, tentacle, cuttle bone, arm, head, fin, and stomach. We had to use the cuttlebone and the ink sack to write our names in our books. Inside the loligo pealei, the fumes errupted. The guts squished around, like jelly cushions. The beak was amazingly sharp. Inside the poo sack there was disgusting orange paste. There was no blood but it was extremely slimy. We extracted the cuttle bone from the mollusk and cut open the ink sack. We carefully wrote our names in our books with this ink. But at the end of the day (apart from the gross side of it) we had fun.
