Welcome to my Clinkenbeard Lineage Page. The Surname of Clinkenbeard has many various spellings. This is a newer line for me as it wasn't until I received my DNA results from Ancestry that it came into play, but I will not go into specifics. I have not been able to find with any certainty where the name Clinkenbeard originated from. Was it a variation of another surname? Did the name come from Norway/Sweeden of which I have a 9% ethnicity of, or Germanic Europe of which I have a 5% ethicity of, or of Nortwestern Europe of which I have an abundance of?. I am starting this page off with John Clinkenbeard until I can work my way back further. You will notice that I have the word tentative after a name. This is due to the fact that I cannot prove their lineage to a certain individual. The basis I use is name and location to others within that certain area. Descendants of John Clinkenbeard*John Clinkenbeard was born on 09 Jul 1755, Pennsylvania near Conolloway near the Maryland line (per U.S. Revolutionary Pension papers). According to the Combs family website Conollaway was better known as Tonoloway. Tonoloway is in what is now Fulton Co., Pennsylvania which is just across the state line from Washington Co., Maryland. John was residing in Bourbon Co., Kentucky at the time of his application in 1834. In March 1774 he was recruited as a spy under the orders of Colonel Sevier of North Carolina at the frontier post on the Holstein river. In 1780 John was drafted as a Private for 18 months in the Virginia Militia Minute Men of Berkley County under Capt Josiah Swerengen. His application also states that when he was a boy his father migrated to Berkley Co., Virginia, then to Lucerne Station on the Hostein river for 4 years, then back to Berkley Co., Virginia, then to Knoxville, Tennessee, and finally to Bourbon Co., Kentucky in 1816 where he had been residing. There were also mentions of depositions from his brothers Isaac and William. John Clinkenbeard Revolutionary War Pension Application John married Mary Lucas. There is a findagrave page that lists Mary's maiden name as Lucas and her birth as 08 Feb 1763, Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., Kentucky, and her death date as 1829, Bourbon Co., Kentucky. John made a deed for 307 acres of land in Sevier Co., Tennessee on 23 Nov 1810. Unfortunately, the 1800 and 1810 Tennessee Census records were either lost or destroyed for the area that John and his family were living. John migrated to Bourbon Co., Kentucky from Tennessee in 1816 per his U. S. Revolutionary War Pension records. John was listed in the 1820 North Middletown, Bourbon Co., Kentucky Census with 1 male under 10, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 16-18, 2 males 16-25, 1 male 45+, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 16-25, 1 female 26-45, and 1 female 45+, and the 1830 Bourbon Co., Kentucky Census with 1 male 70-79, and 2 females 15-19. John left a Will dated 21 Feb 1837, Clark Co., Kentucky in which he names his wife, his children, and grandchildren. The Will was proved in April Court. Mary married Mary Polly Carter on 18 Jul 1797, Jefferson Co., Tennessee. Mary was born in 1793, Virginia. There family was listed in the 1830 Bourbon Co., Kentucky Census records. I am not sure if John died or if they separated. Polly was listed in several Census records. Mary died in Buchanan Co., Missouri. Children: a. Isaac Clinkenbeard, b: 1823, KY 6. Jonathan Clinkenbeard, born Unknown. Jonathan was a Pvt in the War of 1812 from 20 Aug 1812 to 20 Aug 1813. He married Sarah Smart on 09 Apr 1816, Frankfort, Franklin Co., Kentucky. Sarah was listed in the 1850 District 38, Holt Co., Missour Census living with her daughter Mary Ray and her family, and the 1880 Fox Creek, Harrison Co., Missouri Census living with her son George and his family. a. Mary Polly "Polly" Clinkenbeard, b: Unknown From the Tennessee Early Land Records, Warrant 172 (Ancestry): Deed dated the 17th August 1792 for an entry made in the name of John Clinkenbeard the 26th day of January 1778. It was considered by the board that a Certificate issue thereon to the Claimant for Ninety one acres which quantity which appears vented in Claimant by regular Conveyance from the Legatees of the Grantee and It further appearing that the entry and warrant upon which said Grant Issued is good and Valid & that no other Grant ever Issued on this number for this entry *****************2nd Generation ***************** *William Clinkenbeard by as born in 1780, Berkley Co., Virginia. It appears that William was married twice. He married Sarah "Sally" Hooker on 17 Jan 1822, Scott Co., Indiana.
