My Elkins Lineage
*****************1st Generation***************** Ralph Elkins was born was born in 1636 in Co. Berkshire, England, the son of John Elkins and Rosanna Malin. He was baptized on 01 February 1736 at St. Giles, Reading, Co. Berkshire, England. He married Mary or Frances Mary Ashton. I found two different references for a Mary's Christening. The first was on 01 January 1638 at Winwick, Co. Lancashire, England, the daughter of John Ashton, the second was on 07 July 1644 at Manchester, Co. Lancashire, England, the daughter of Paul Ashton. A few bits of information is below on Ralph. Mary or Frances Mary died ca 1690. Ralph died on 06 September 1690 in Stafford Co., Virginia. Their children were. Please note that the dates for their children may be different as Ralph lists his son Richard (the eldest) in his Will: 1. Richard Elkins, born in 1669, Virginia. Note: Richard is listed as Ralph's eldest son in his Will and the Godson of John Ashton. Richard married twice. He married firstly to Mary Williams on 12 Jan 1695. Mary was born in 1670 in Virginia, the daughter of Evan Williams and Christian Martin. Mary died 1695 in Virginia. Their children were: a. Catherine Elkins, b: 1687 in VA, She married William Redman. William was born in 1680 in VIrginia, the son of William Redman. Catherine died in 1725 and William died in 1757. b. Joseph Elkins, b: 1691, VA. He was listed in the 1755 Cumberland Co., North Carolina Tax List. c. James Elkins, b: 1694, VA. He married Amy Harrison. Amy was born in 1689 in King George Co., VA. James died in 1717 in VA. Mary married secondly to Benjamin Rush. Richard married secondly to Elizabeth Bryant. Elizabeth was born in 1684 in Virginia, the daughter of Richard Bryant and Anne Meese (sp). Richard died on 26 Mar 1754 in Stafford Co., Virginia, and Elizabeth died in 1757 in Virginia. Their children were: d. William Elkins, b: 1702, VA. e. John Elkins, b: 09 Nov 1703, VA, married Helen Schofield. Helen was born in 1705 in Virginia, the daughter of Wayne Schofield and Gabriella Woodard. John died on 01 May 1751 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Children: John, Samuel, Robert and Richard Elkins. f. Sarah Dorothy Elkins, b: 1706, King George Co., VA, She married twice. She married firstly to William Stringfellow. William was born in 1687 in Lancaster Co., Virginia, the son of James Stringfellow and Margaret Madison. He died on 02 May 1746 in King George Co., Virginia. Sarah married secondly to David Seale. David was born in 1709 in King George Co., Virginia. g. Nathaniel Elkins, b: 1707, VA. h. Jean/Joan Elkins, b: 1709, VA. She married Bartholomew Redman on 24 Jun 1727 at St. Paul's Parish, Stafford Co., VA. Bartholomew was born in 1707 in VA, the son of Thomas Redman. i. Ralph Elkins, b: 1710, VA. He married Frances Browne. Frances was born in 1709 in VA, the daughter of Maxfield Browne and Sarah Newman. Ralph died in 1778 in VA and Frances died in 1796 in VA. j. Margaret Elkins, b: 1711, VA. She married James Stevens on 21 Jun 1727 at St. Paul's Parish, Stafford Co., VA. k. Benjamin Elkins, b: 1714, VA. l. Priscilla Elkins, b: 1715, VA. She married Benjamin Sebastian on 16 Feb 1729 at St. Paul's Parrish, Stafford Co., VA. Benjamin was born in 1706 in VA, the son of Stephen Sebastian and Elizabeth Wylie. Phyllis died in 1772 in Virginia, and Benjamin died on 13 Sep 1770 in Virginia. Rebecca was born in 1685 in King George Co., Virginia, the daughter of William and Rebeca Summerton. Nathaniel died on 01 March 1734 and Rebecca died on 01 February 1733. I have not been able to find a Will for Nathaniel. Their children were: 1. Nathaniel Elkins, b: 1703 in Virginia. Nathaniel died in 1797/98 King George Co., VA. His Will was proved in Feb 1798, mentioning his brother Jeremiah Elkins, sister Lettice Tevil and nephew Benjamin Elkins. No children. 2. Jeremiah Elkins, (See 3rd Generation), b: 1705 in Virginia 3. Lettice Elkins, b: 1707 in King George Co., Virginia. She married ____ Tevil (Per Brother Nathaniel's Will). 4. He married Mary Gallop. Mary was born in 1702 in King George Co., Virginia, the daughter of Robert Gallop and Elinor Bryant. Mary died in 1744 in Virginia. Note: Many researchers state that Mary Gallop married Richard Elkins. So either Jeremiah's wife was Mary Gallop or she was Mary ____. For now, I am leaving her here, but please note. Jeremiah was listed in the 1782 Tax List for Kings Co., Virginia. Jeremiah died on 06 February 1804. Their children were: 1. He married Phyllis Monteith. Phyllis was born in 1729 in King George Co., Virginia, the daughter of Thomas Monteith and Phyllis Gallop (Note, many others suggest that Phyllis was really Phyllis Gallop who married Thomas Monteith and the she married secondly to Benjamin. However that would put her in her 60's for the children of Benjamin). For now, I am leaving it this way. Benjamin died on 25 November 1797 in Grainger Co., Tennessee, and Phyllis died in 1818 in Jessamine Co., Kentucky. Their children were: 1. David Elkins, b: 1750 in Virginia. In his Pension records it stated that he was living in Marion Co., South Carolina when he entered into service. He married Lusina Stringfellow. Lusina was born in 1763 in King George Co., Virginia, the daughter of William Stringfellow and Rebecca Martin. They were listed in the 19They relocated to Bedford Co., Tennessee in 1812. Lusina received one dollar from her father William Stringfield's Will dated 1814. Lusina received Richard's pension in 1838 Note that Richard's Pension efforts began in 1832 before he was deceased. He was listed as deceased on 26 April 1838 in his papers. Their children were: 1. Elizabeth Elkins, born in 1780 Virginia. She married Richard Ussery. Richard b: 1731 in Hanover Co., Virginia, the son of John Ussery and Elizabeth Mask. They were listed in the 1820 Lancaster Co., South Carolina Census records. Elizabeth was listed in the 1830 Lancaster Co., South Carolina Census records. Elizabeth died in 1838 in Virginia and Richard did in 1828 in Virginia. a. Achsha Ussery, b: 1797 in South Carolina. She married John H. Baker. John b: 1793 in South Carolina, the son of William Baker and Elizabeth Brown. They were listed in the 1850 Shelby Co., AL Census. John d: 11 Jun 1856. Anna was born 21 December 1809, in Bedford Co., Tennessee, the daughter of John Ewell and Mary Kennerly. They were listed in the 1830 Bedford Co., Tennessee Census, the 1850 Rusk, Cherokee Co., Texas Census, and the 1860 Smith Co., Texas Census records. Asa died on 19 November 1869 and Anna died in 1848.
