Descendants of William Presley Haynes

     *William Presley Haynes was born in 1735 possibly in Virginia. Note: I have seen that many put William's parents as John Haynes and Mary Eddings, but I have not been able to prove it as of yet. He married Sarah Emma Gibbs. Sarah was born in 1737 in Rutherford, Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Richard Gibbs and Katherine Carwithe. William died in 1788 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. William wrote his Will on 22 May 1788 in Rutherford Co., North Carolin, mentioning the following; Children: John, Mary, William, Sarah, Hezekiah, Henry, Rachel, and Levi, Wife: Sarah. Sarah was listed in the 1790 Rutherford Co., North Carolina Census records. She died in 1805, in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. William wrote his Will on 22 May 1788 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. Their children were:

1. William Haynes, born in 1757, Rutherford Co., North Carolina. He was listed in the 1790 Rutherford Co., North Carolina Census with 1 m over 16, 1 m -16, and 3 females, the 1800 Morgan, Rutherford Co., North Carolina Census, with 3 m under 10, 1 m 10-15, 1 m 26-44, 2 f -10, 2 f 10-15 and 1 f 26-44, and may be the William listed in the 1830 Haywood Co., North Carolina Census records. I could not find their family after that. Anyone?

2. John Haynes, was born on 24 November 1759, Bills Creek, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, married Mary Stice. Mary was born in 1764, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Charles Carl and Catey Stice. They were listed in the 1810 Butler Co., Kentucky Census, the 1820 Warren Co., Kentucky Census and the 1830 Barren Co., Kentucky Census. John died on 25 Oct 1838, Barren Co., Kentucky Census. Mary was listed in the 1850 Hickman Co., Kentucky Census records. She died in 1855. Their children were:

     a. Catherine "Katie" Haynes, b: 1784, NC, married twice. She married firstly to Coleman Townsend. Coleman Children: Sarah "Sally", Elizabeth "Betsy", and Mary "Polly" Townsend.. Catherine married secondly to John Elmore on 19 Feb 1812, Warren Co., KY. John was b: 03 Feb 1790, Orange Co., NC, the son of Edward Elmore. John d: 1829, Warren Co., KY. Children: James, William H., John H., Catherine and Susan Elmore.

     b. John Haynes, b: 1786, NC.

     c. Dicy Haynes, b: 31 Dec 1789, NC, married William Stewart on 20 Jul 1809, Barren Co., KY. William was b: 28 May 1785, Brunswick Co., VA, the son of Robert Stewart and Patience Humphries. They were listed in the 1820 Orange Co., IN Census, and the 1840 and 1850 Coles Co., IL Census. William d: 21 Jul 1865, Coles Co., IL. Dicy was listed in the1870 and 1880 Coles Co., IL Census records . She d: 07 Sep 1881, Coles Co., IL. Children: Sarah H. "Sally", Patience H., Robert H., Mary H., Rebecca M., Melinda H., John Haynes, Ruth H., Emilia J., William H., Dicey, and Lucinda Stewart.

     d. William Edward Haynes, b: 31 Dec 1789, NC, married Anna Henley. Anna was b: 27 Nov 1791, SC, the daughter of Timothy Henley and Marley Mosler. William d: 25 May 1830. Anna d: 04 May 1868. William and Anna are buried in the Haynes Cemetery, Nortonville, Morgan Co., IL. Children: Hezekiah B., Permelia, Lewis, Bluford, John, Mary Ann, Rebecca, Baxter, and Nancy Haynes.

     e. Elizabeth "Eliza" Haynes, b: 1795, NC, married Robert Littrell on 30 Jul 1812, Barren Co., KY. Robert was b: 1790, VA, the son of Jeremiah Littrell and Lucinda Lawrence. They were listed in the 1820 Robert d. Aug 1842, Barren Co., KY. Eliza was listed in the 1850. She d: 01 Nov 1852, Barren Co., KY. Eliza and Robert are buried in the Old Littrell cemetery, Barren Co., KY (findagrave.com). Children: Benjamin, Elias, James, Robert, and a child Littrell.

     f. Melinda Haynes, b: 1797, NC, married James Ransom on 29 May 1817, Barren Co., KY. James was b: 1792, NC, the son of Richard Ransom and Mildred Simpson. They were listed in the 1820 and 1840 Scottsville, Allen Co., KY Census, and the 1850 Graves Co., KY Census. James d: 1853, Graves Co., KY. Melinda was listed in the 1860 and 1870 Graves Co., KY Census records. Children: Jesse, Rutha, William, Mary, Malinda, Sarah, Chloe, Benjamin, John, and Barnett Ransom.

     g. Rebecca Haynes, b: 10 Jun 1798, NC, married Jesse Elmore on 14 Mar 1815. Barren Co., KY. Jesse was b: 01 Sep 1784, SC, the son of John Elmore and Nancy Rippey. They were listed in the 1820 and 1830 Barren Co., KY Census. John d: 14 Mar 1837, Barren Co., KY. Rebecca was listed in the 1860 Butler Co., KY Census records. Rebecca d: 1862, Butler Co., KY. Children: John, Rhoda H., Hugh, Charles, and Abraham Elmore.

     h. Ruth Haynes, b: 1799, KY, married Benjamin Littrel on 19 Nov 1820, Warren Co., KY. Benjamin was born in 1790, KY, the son of Jeremiah Littrell.

     i. Susannah Haynes, b: 1801, KY, married Hugh Lowe on 02 Aug 1821, Barren Co., KY. Hugh was born in 1800, SC, the son of William Lowe and Nancy Owens. They were listed in the 1830 and 1840 Warren Co., KY Census. Susannah died sometime after that Census was taken. Hugh was listed in the 1850 and 1860 Warren Co., KY Census records. Children: Permelia Jane, Ann, Mary, Whitman, Maria F., Martha C., Marshall D., Susannah, John W., Hannah, and Ollie/Aulie H. Lowe.

     j. Mary Haynes, b: 05 Aug 1802, KY, married William Hayden Lindsay 07 Jul 1816, Barren Co., KY. William was b: 1795, Orange Co., NC. They were listed in the 1840 and 1850 Edmonson Co., KY Census. Mary d: 22 Dec 1859. William was listed in the 1860 Edmonson Co., KY Census records. He d: 07 Jul 1869. They are buried in the Old Brownsville Cemetery, Brownsville, Edmonson Co., KY (findagrave.com). Children: Charles B., John B., Jesse H., Sarah Henrietta, Caleb, Rose Anna, Louisa, Lura Ann, Enoch B. Lindsay.

     k. John Haynes, b: 18 Sep 1807, KY, married twice. He married firstly to Milley Lawrence on 14 Dec 1830, Butler Co., KY. Milley was b: 13 Apr 1812, Butler Co., KY, the daughter of Willis and Isabella Lawrence. They were listed in the 1840 Barren Co., KY Census, and the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Butler Co., KY Census. Milley d: 22 May 1874 and is buried in the Threlkel Cemetery, Reedyville, Butler Co., KY. Children: Benjamin, Alexander, Virginia E., Silas Carter, Alvy, and Willis Haynes. John married secondly to Joanna Bellers Simpson. Joanna was married firstly to James Simpson. John and Joanna were listed in the 1880 Butler Co., KY Census records. John d: 16 Oct 1890, and is buried in the Threlkel Cemetery, Reedyville, Butler Co., KY. Children: Mary Jane Haynes.

4. Sarah "Sally" Haynes, born 1770, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, married Zacheus Jones. Zacheus died in 1796, Rutherford Co., North Carolina.

5. Hezekiah Haynes, born 1772, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, married Barthena Harris. Barthena was born in 1775, South Carolina. Hezekiah died in 1835. Barthena was living with her son William and his family in the 1850 Warren Co., Tennessee Census records. Their children were:

     a. Jonathan Haynes, b:1800, NC, m. Harriet Lewis. Harriet was b: 1800, Wayne Co, TN. Jonathan was listed in the 1837 Tax List of Washington Co., AR. Their family was listed in the 1830 Wayne Co., TN Census, the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Scott Co., AR Census records. Children: John L., Benjamin, Elizabeth, Claiborne, William H. Haynes.

     b. John B. Haynes, b:1803, TN, m. Lucinda Rhodes, 28 Jan 1841, Fayette Co., Illinois. John d: on 17 Jul 1848, Crawford Co., Illinois. Lucinda was listed in the 1850 Southwest, Montgomery Co., Illinois Census records. Children: Green and Henry Haynes.

     c. Sarah Haynes, b:1805, KY.

     d. William Haynes, b:1815, Warren Co., KY, m. Sarah Ann Lawless on 06 Jul 1850, Jefferson Co., Tennessee. Children: David M., Jonathan H., Nancy C., J. D., Melinda J., Margaret A., and Sarah F. Haynes.

6. Henry Haynes, born 1774, Rutherford Co., North Carolina.

7. Rachel Haynes, born 1776, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, married John Emanuel Crook. John was born in 1775, North Carolina, the son of Andrew and Sarah Crooks. They were listed in the 1800, 1810, and 1820 Rutherford Co, Census. John died sometime after that Census. Rachel was listed in the 1830 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records. Their children were:

     a. Zephania Crook, b: 1794, NC, married Alcey ____. They were listed in the 1840, 1850, 1860 Buncombe Co., NC Census. It appears that they divorced. In the 1870 Buncombe Co., NC Census records Alcey was remarried to Thomas Ellison, but Zephania was living with their family. Zephania died in 1880. Zephania and Alcey's children were: Jasper A. and Alfred Crook.

     b. William Crook, b: 1794, NC, married Susannah Keeter on 20 May 1820, Rutherford Co., NC. Susanna was born in 1804, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, the daughter of James Keeter and Katherine Stringfield. They were listed in the 1820 Rutherford Co., NC Census. I could not find the family before 1850. Susanna was listed in the 1850 Cathies Creek, Rutherford Co., NC Census, the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Rutherford Co., NC Census records. Children: Catherine, Malinda "Linda", Ursillia, and unknown son Crook.

     c. Mary "Polly" Crook, b: 1802, NC, married John Laughter on 01 Sep 1819, Rutherford Co., NC. John was b: 15 Mar 1801, Rutherford Co., NC, the son of James Laughter and Sarah Doyle. They were listed in the 1850 Vigo Co., IL Census, the 1860 Jasper Co., IL Census, and the 1870 Woodbury, Cumberland Co., IL Census records. Children: John H., Ahijah, and William H. Laughter.

     d. David Crook, b: 1803, NC, married twice. He married first to Mary "Polly" ____. Polly was born in 1805 in North Carolina. Children: Rachael, and David Crook. David married secondly to Margaret Stokes. She was married previously to Abraham Tosh. Margaret was born in 1814 Tennessee, the daughter of Sherwood and Margaret Stokes. They were listed in the 1860 and 1870 Putnam Co., TN Census records.

     e. Catherine Crook, b: 1804, NC.

     f. Susannah Crook, b: 1804, NC, married Sampson Jackson on 16 Dec 1823, Rutherford Co., NC. Sampson was born in 1806, North Carolina, the son of John Jackson and Elizabeth Cumming. Now, I am not sure what happened, but I believe that Susannah died before the 1850 Census as he was married to a Sarah.

     g. Melinda Crook, b: 1806, NC.

8. Eli Haynes, born 1777, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, married twice. He married firstly to Elizabeth Cook on 26 March 1802, Rutherford Co., North Carolina. Elizabeth was born in 1781, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, the daughter of John and Nellie Cook. It seems that the couple divorced. Their children were:

     a. Wilkerson Haynes, b: 1803, NC, married Elizabeth Keeter on 30 Jan 1826, Rutherford Co., NC. Elizabeth was b: 1808, Rutherford Co., NC, the daughter of Benjamin Keeter and Martha Johnson. Wilkerson d: 1869, Rutherford Co., NC. Elizabeth was living with her son John's family in the 1870 Rutherford Co., NC Census records. Elizabeth d: 05 Aug 1870, Rutherford Co., NC. Children: Martha, Benjamin, John, Alfred, Mary, Washington, Frances Marion, Henry, Augustus, Alana, Myra, Rany, and Catherine Haynes.

     b. William S. Haynes, b: 1805, NC, married Elizabeth Porter. Elizabeth was b: 24 Jan 1826, Marion Co., NC, the daughter of Joshua Porter and Mary Lewis. They were listed in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Marion Co., TN Census. Elizabeth d: 12 Sep 1872, Marion Co., TN. William was listed in the 1880 Marion Co., Tennessee Census records. He d: 23 Jun 1881, Marion Co., TN. Children: Ezekial H, James M., Susan M., Rebecca Jane, William, Isham Alexander Haynes.

     c. Mary Haynes, b: 1810, NC, married William Bradley on 20 Jan 1831, Rutherford Co., NC. William was b: 1805, Rutherford Co., NC, the son of Coleman and Sarah Bradley. They were listed in the Children: Elizabeth Angeline, Coleman Edward, Eli T., Sarah, Winnie, Hampton Blythe, and Mary Salina Bradly.

     *Mary Stice born 1760, Rutherford Co., North Carolina, married Phillip Stice. Phillip was born 1760, North Carolina, the son of Charles Carl Stice and Catey ____. They were listed in the 1790, 1810, and 1820 Rutherford Co., North Carolina Census records. Mary died sometime after the 1820 Census was taken, probably in Rutherford Co., North Carolina, and Phillip died in 1825, Rutherford Co., North Carolina.
