Welcome to my Procunier Lineage Page. The Surname of Procunier has many various spellings, such as; Peconier, Bracounier, Brockunier, Bragunier, Bragoonier, Bragonier, Pragunier and a slew others. The Procunier's were originally French. This line fled France to Germany due to religious persecution. My page will start off with John Nicholas Peconier. A lot of this information come from the book; "Early Settlers of Long Point", and "A Compendium of Mabie Research", to name a few. Descendants of Johan Nichol Peconier*Johan left Germany ca 1740 aboard the Lydia that sailed for Pennsylvania. Johan was listed in the 1740 Early Pennsylvania Census records for Philadelphia (listed as Johan Nickel Boeckener). Their children were: 1. Johan Nichol Pecnier, b: ca 1723, Germany. Johan was listed in the 1740 Early Pennsylvania Census records for Philadelphia (listed as Johan Nickel Boeckener, Jr.). 2. Henry Peconier (tentative), b: 1725, Germany. It has not been a proven fact that Johan is Peter's father, but it does seem probable. He married Margaretha ____. Peter was listed as Peter Prakunier born 1727 in the 1776 Colonial Census for Maryland (Ancestry.com). Peter was listed next as Peter Parcunier in the 1790 Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania Census records with 1 male over 16, and 1 female (Ancestry.com). Peter was baptized French Huguenot in the 1st Reformed Church. He owned a large piece of land called "Hagar's Long Hickory" located in Frederick Co. now Washington Co., Maryland. 2. Susanna Procunier, born 1761, Elizabeth Hundred, Frederick Co., Maryland. She married Henry Werner on 28 May 1779, Washington Co., Maryland; Susanna was listed as Pragunier. 3. Elizabeth Procunier, born 1763, Elizabeth Hundred, Frederick Co., Maryland. She married Martin Etnier. Their family was listed in the 1778 Early MD Census for Washington Co., the 1790 Huntingdon Co., PA Census, and the 1800-1820 Shirley, Huntingdon Co., PA Census records. Martin left a Will dated 03 Oct 1823, Huntingdon Co., PA naming his children, and Elizabeth left a Will dated 10 Sep 1844, also in Huntingdon Co., PA. It does appear that Elizabeth was too young to be the mother of John born in 1775, but may be the mother of the rest of his children. Their children were: a. He married Sarah Zane Clarke, 24 Apr 1824, Belmont Co., OH. Sarah, b: 19 Sep 1797, WV, d: 16 Feb 1882. He was listed in the Maryland, Colonial Census for Fredrick Co. in 1776 as being 11 years of age. Peter married Mary Elizabeth _____ (findagrave lists her maiden name as McKinsley). On 05 Jun 1794 Peter entered a deed for 400 acres of land in Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania adjoining John Donache on the South and James Galbraith on the West at fifty shillings per 100 acres.
