The early estimates are in, and winner of this weekend's box office race will be Dr. Dolittle. Opening in 2,777 sites, the Eddie Murphy comedy brought in an estimated gross of 29 million as it rocketed above his last family comedy The Nutty Professor. Murphy has reinforced his position as a top box office draw and Dr. Dolittle should be able to reach 120-130 million before it heads to video.
Universal's Out of Sight nabbed an estimated 12.9 million for itself over the weekend. The Steven Soderberg directed film should be a decent mid-range hit for Universal, a studio that has been misfiring lately. The Jennifer Lopez-George Clooney starrer should suck up 50-60 million by the end of its run.
