North Holden Street building destroyed in fire
NORTH ADAMS -- An unoccupied building use for storage and as a garage at 73
North Holden St., was destroyed by a probably accidental fire early Wednesday
night.Craig Rougeau, North Adams Director of Fire Division, said Thursday morning that
the fire was reported at 7:35 p.m. and when firefighters arrived they found a
two-story structure fully involved. The fire, however, was contained and prevented
from spreading to a nearby apartment building.
The fire is believed to accidental, started by a wood stove in the structure, but State
Fire Marshal Christopher Ware was called in to inspect the fire.
"We are 99 percent sure that it was a faulty installation (of the wood stove), it is not
of suspicious origin," Rougeau said. "We called Chris (Ware) in just to make sure."
Reportedly destroyed in the fire was a motor vehicle, several pieces of equipment and
other contents. No value was given for the damage or loss.
The structure is reportedly owned by Norman Parker, who could not be reached by
fire officials.
