Ylonen's right foot is broken The Arizona Republic April 25, 1999 The Coyotes suffered another injury to a key player, learning after Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over St. Louis that center Juha Ylonen will miss the remainder of the playoffs because of a broken right foot. Ylonen, the hard-working Finn who had two assists in Saturday's Game 2 of the first-round series, including an assist on the game-winning goal by Shane Doan, suffered the fracture when he was hit in the ankle area by a slap shot from Blues defenseman Al MacInnis. The team said he will be sidelined for four to six weeks. The injury to Ylonen, one of the team's best defensive forwards and penalty killers, comes on the heels of injuries to star center Jeremy Roenick and second-line left wing Greg Adams. Roenick is out indefinitely because of a broken jaw and a fractured right thumb. Adams missed Game 2 because of a groin pull and will miss Game 3 today in St. Louis. "It's a big loss, but you have to just keep right on going," General Manager Bobby Smith said. "Juha's a very valuable player who will come back and play for us, but we've got a guy in Bob Corkum who can step up and fill that role, and hopefully, we'll have Adams back for Game 4 (on Tuesday)." Ylonen is the third Phoenix player to suffer a broken bone this season because of a slap shot from MacInnis, who possesses the hardest shot in the NHL. "It's not enough you have to worry about him shooting it in your net or faking it and setting up a guy for a goal," Smith said, "but he breaks an important player's foot."
