The Unresolved Cliffhangers Poll: Results
Well, here are the results of my poll, as gathered form my form and from the newsgroups (where I have posted the poll).
Best of the 'hangers on my page:
"Star Trek: The Next Generation, Best Of Both Worlds Part One, the original and still the best! Best episode on Next Gen ever, too. Even if the resolution wasn't that good the 'hanger was great. Best, or at least most meaningful to me, of the "unresolved" hangers was Blake's 7. I'll never forget seeing it for the first time. I've never trusted the BBC since that night!"
"SOAP."
"Episode 52 of "Blake's Seven" (if "best" is the word for it)."
"Twin Peaks. I think I'd go for that. Tremendously frustrating and yet it sent a chill down my spine when you just see evil Agent Cooper out in the world, having smashed his head into a mirror. Chilling."
"'Fastlane', of course. Damn, McG, why'd you do it? Was it for that stupid 'OC' show? I gotta say, 'Fastlane' leaves 'The OC' in the dust. Shame, McG, shame."
"Alex mack"
Think any of the big TV awards shows (say, the Emmys) should have a category especially for 'hangers? Add your opinions too.
"No, programme makers would just contrive them and they'd get silly."
"No."
"Nope. They can be contrived easily - just, for example, have your cast about to be blown up in a trapped room with 5 seconds on the bomb... for example..."
"No"
Think that unresolved 'hangers (like those on my pages) are just as good as 'hangers that do get resolved? Add your opinions on why as well.
"I don't mind unresolved ones, OK they can be frustrating, but they do let you indulge in lots of fun speculation about how they could have been resolved."
"No."
"No. Unresolved 'hangers are so frustrating that I meant to break things. 'Hangers that are unresolved because of series being cancelled are bad enough, but 'hangers that are resolved dreadfully, or ignored, due to poor scripting receive contempt and bile from me."
"No. I wanted to see the resolution of 'Fastlane'. Heck, they even had the previews for the beginning of the next season; why couldn't they feed us the finished product?"
"They should be left unresolved for the invividual person to decide what happenes in their head."
Current show most likely to end on an unresolved 'hanger:
"Six Feet Under. It's a great show, but it likes to mess with us."
"Farscape, because Skiffy is evil..."
"Barrymore."
"I'd have to agree with a fellow poster and say "Farscape" because Sci-fi are a pack of bastards. Well ok not really it make economic sense for them but still :)"
"I suppose Fox's 24 is a prime candidate; the whole damn show is one big cliffhanger, and sooner or later it's going to get cancelled..."
"'The OC'. Supposed to be a 13-episode miniseries, but it already 'took a break' until October. 'Fastlane' took a break for two months and we never saw it again."
"Karen Sisco, 10-8, Life With Bonnie, The Handler, Hack, Joan Of Arcadia, Whoopi!, Happy Family, The Lyon's Den"
