Barry Bostwick

Biography

Barry Bostwick made is professional stage debut while he was a sophomore at San Diego's U. S. I. U. School of Performing Arts in "Take Her, She's Mine" with Walter Pigeon. After Graduation, he moved to New York, attended NYU's Graduate School of the Arts and soon made his Broadway debut with the APA-Phoenix Repertory Company in the title role of Sean O'Casey's "Cock-a-Doodle-Dandy." He earned his first Tony Award nomination for creating the role of Danny Zuko in the smash hit Broadway musical "Grease" and then earned his second nomination for the role of Joey in "They Knew What They Wanted" in 1975. He won the coveted award in 1978 for his performance as "The Robber Bridegroom." In the Spring of 1981, he portrayed the swashbuckling Pirate King in the Los Angeles company of Joseph Papp's production of "The Pirates of Penzance. In 1991, he returned to Broadway to star in "Nick and Nora." 1992 was a busy film year for Barry. He completed "Weekend at Bernies 2," "800 Hundred Leagues Down the Amazon" directed by Luis Llosa and "Russian Holiday." His other film credits include the mega hit midnight cult movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and Stanley Donen's "Movie, Movie."

No stranger to television either, Barry has had many starring roles in highly acclaimed TV films and miniseries. They include his Golden Globe winning performance in ABC's "War and Remembrance." He also received critical praise for portrayal of George Washington in the Peabody Award winning work for CBS as well as in the sequel, "George Washington II, The Forging of a Nation." He starred in the miniseries "Movieola," "Deceptions," "A Woman of Substance" and three adaptations of Judith Krantz novels: "I'll Take Manhattan," "Scruples," and "'Till We Meet Again." His movies for television include "Murder By Natural Causes," "Betrayed By Innocence,"

"You Can't Take It With You," "Once Upon A Family," "Body of Evidence," Addicted To His Love," "Parent Trap II," as well as "Challenger" and "Captive." He has also starred in the ABC-TV series "Foul Play" and "Dads," and has guest hosted NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

In addition to his film and TV work, Barry has appeared in several musical specials for PBS, including "Broadway Plays Washington," "The Best of Broadway," "In Performance At the White House," "Irving Berlin's 100th Birthday Celebration at Carnegie Hall," and an adaptation of the Broadway hit "Working."

In 1995, Barry did quite a range of projects: Dominick Dunne's 2-hour "919 Fifth Avenue" for Tri-Star/CBS Television, "The Return Of the Hunter," a Stephen J. Cannell/NBC Production, "Men, Movies and Carol" with Carol Burnett for CBS and "A Capital Fourth" also for CBS.
