Sumptuous 1870 Opera Gown This authentic replica is a work of art. The rounded hooped skirts of the mid 1800's were transformed into even more lavish dresses during the 1870's. While skirts became flatter at the front, they remained voluminous at the back with elaborate trains. This costume features a wide underskirt with a double layer of real lace for an elegantly frothy effect. Draped from the waist at the back is a generously gathered train. The train has an extravagant border of beaded medallion appliques with crochet roses, joined with rows of pearls. Tiny pleats form a second border. An adorable bustle with matching pleats, pearl and rose trim adorns the top. The bodice is created in matching pleats with a wide peplum forming an overskirt. A row of pearls encircles the neckline and is draped at the shoulders to create sleeves. >
