"To Each, His Own"
I cannot change the way I am, I never really try.
God made me different and unique...
I never ask Him why.
If I appear peculilar, there's nothing I can do.
You must accept me as I am...
As I've accepted you.
God made a casting of each life,
Then threw the old away.
Each child is different from the rest...
Unlike as night from day.
So often we will criticize,
the things that others do.
But, do you know...
They do not think the same, as me and you.
So God in all His wisdom,
Who knows us all by name,
Didn't want us to be boring...
That's Why we're not the same!

"Walk A Little Plainer"
Walk a little plainer, Mommy,
said a litle boy, so frail.
I'm following in your footsteps, and I
don't want to fail.
Sometimes your steps are very plain...
Sometimes they're hard to see.
So walk a little plainer Mommy,
for you are leading me.
I know that once you walked this way,
many years ago.
And what you did along the way, I'd really like to know.
For sometimes when I'm tempted, I don't know
what to do.
So walk a little plainer Mommy,
for I must follow you.
Someday when I'm grown up,
You're like what I want to be.
Then I will have a little child
who will want to follow me.
And I will want to lead him right,
and help him to be true...
So walk a little plainer Mommy,
For we must follow you.

"Little Things"
My hands were busy through the day...
I didn't have much time to play.
The little games you asked me to...
I didn't have much time for you.
I'd wash your clothes, I'd sew and cook,
But when you'd bring your picture book
and ask me please, to share your fun...
I'd say, "A little later, Son."
I'd tuck you in all safe at night,
hear your prayers, turn out the light.
Then tiptoe softly to the door...
I wish I'd stayed a minute more!
For life is short, and the years rush past...
A little boy grows up so fast!
No longer is he at your side,
His precious secrets to confide.
The picture books are put away...
There are no children's games to play.
No goodnight kiss, no prayers to hear...
That all belongs to yesteryear.
My hands once busy, now lay still...
The days are long, and hard to fill.
I wish I might go back, and do...
The little things you asked me to.

It costs so much to be a full human being that there
are very few who have the enlightenment or the courage to pay the price...
One has to abandon altogether the search for security,
and reach out to the risk of living with both arms.
One has to embrace the world like a lover.
One has to accept pain as a condition of existence.
One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing.
One needs a will stubborn in conflict but apt always to
total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying.

Everybody Knows:
You can't be all things to all people.
You can't do all things at once.
You can't do all things equally well.
You can't do all things better than everyone else.
Your humanity is showing just like everyone else's.
So:
You have to find out who you are, and be that.
You have to decide what comes first, and do that.
You have to discover your strengths, and use them.
You have to learn not to compete with others,
Because no one else is in the contest of *being you*.
Then:
You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.
You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.
You will have learned to live with your limitations.
You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.
And you'll be a most vital mortal.
Dare To Believe:
That you are a wonderful, unique person.
That you are a once-in-all-history event.
That it's more than a right, it's your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.
And you'll be able to stay one up on what used to get you down.
