Sheikhan Al-Abri
My full name is Sheikhan Zaher Salem Al-Abri.
I'm from the Sultanate of Oman, a beautiful
country in the south east of the Arab Peninsula.
I was born in Muscat, the capital of Oman on
17th October 1971. Al-Hamra is the village where
I live. It's a small, quite place located in the
interior region of Oman. I studied there from the
primary school to the secondary school after which
I joined the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in 1989.
At SQU, I studied Statistics as a major together
with Mathematics and Computing in the Department
of Mathematics and Computing. I graduated in 1994.
Then I startrd my work as a statistician at the
Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI). Being
an organisation concerned with insurance, PASI needs
to be continuously valued in order to assure that
assetes available are sufficient to pay future
liabilities. Such valuation is one job done by the
so-called actuaries, where the science itself is
called "Actuarial Science".
