The Anime Experience presents
The Anime Experience Art Gallery

The Anime Experience is more than just about fabulous characterization and amazing stories.  It's also about some of the most beautiful artwork that has ever been seen in a visual medium.  While I don't claim to be on par with or even close to the finest artists of the genre, people like Naoko Takeuchi, Shoji Kawamori and Ken-ichi Sonoda, I do have some amount of talent and am not afraid of showing it off.

This page is dedicated to two very dear friends: First, to Erik Lee Paulson, who will be spending the 1998-1999 school year in lovely Akita, Japan, and second to my MSTing partner, pre-reader and honorary (and proud!) onee-chan, Sailor Mac.  You are both very important people to me, and even if I don't always show it, I value your love and friendship more than anything.

Here is some of my artwork.  All pictures have been reduced 50%.  To see them in their original size, right-click on them and select 'View Image.'  No artwork on this page may be re-used without prior express permission.  Permission is granted to print one copy of each picture for personal use only.

Title: Princess
Medium: Graphite on Paper
© May, 1998 Mark Berger
Notes: Princess is a rather special piece to me.  She began life as an illustration of Sara Thunder done in a more typically-anime style, but somebody said, "looks like a princess or something," and the name stuck.  She looks very regal, yet sad, and a story sort of evolved from there.  She may show up someday as a princess or noblewoman in a fantasy story or RPG adventure.

Description: Noble, beautiful, yet sad, the young Princess eagerly awaits the day when her Prince and lover will return to hold her in his arms once again.

Title: Battlefleet Constitution
Medium: Graphite on Paper with computer enhancement
© May, 1998 Mark Berger
Notes: Not my first attempt to draw starships, nor even my first attempt to draw more than one starship on the same sheet of paper (my parents often complained to me that I was wasting paper drawing one ship that took up maybe a fourth of a page, but that's another story all together), but this is the first time that instead of lining the vessels up in a more or less straight row, I tried to illustrate them flying in formation.  When I come back to this picture, I'd like to add a starfield in the background, and maybe a planet or two.  The ships of Battlefleet Constitution are, from top to bottom, the Constitution, the Naginata, the Midway and the Agamemmnon.

Description: Sailing majestically through the lonely sea in the sky, Battlefleet Constitution presents a mighty power for the Stellar Federation.  No matter where they go, Federation citizens in the area can sleep peacefully knowing that the Empire wouldn't dare attack with such a mighty vessel in-system.

Title: Serena - Mystery Sailor Theater 3000
Medium: Graphite on Paper with computer colors
© April, 1998 Mark Berger
Notes: This picture was done for the "Mystery Sailor Theater 3000" series which Sailor Mac and I are currently writing.  These stories are MSTings (fan-written C&C taking the form of a Mystery Science Theater 3000-style production) of really, really horrendous lemons (sexually-explicit fanfics, but believe me, these stories are so gross that we got no pleasure from reading them, only from tearing them to ribbons).  This is Serena, wearing her Gizmonics Institute jumpsuit.  Where's Darien, you may ask?  He's being forced by Dr. Forrester to watch "When All Else Fails."  Alone.  No wonder Serena looks angry.

Description: How dare Dr. Forrester do something like this to Darien!  When we get out of here, the Moon Scepter and I have a little date with that little monkey pud. . .

Title: Moon and Rose Button
Medium: Ink on paper
© April, 1998 Mark Berger
Notes: This picture was done for "Moon and Rose: The World of Romantic Sailor Moon Hentai" (which is coming soon, I promise!).  It is a 25% size version of the site logo (which is why I'm just using the button version).

Description: "Happy Valentine's Day, my love."
She unwrapped the box and opened it. . .and saw a beautiful gold chain which sported a unique charm.
A crescent moon, on top of which was a rose.
"Turn it over," he said. "Read the inscription."
She did. "To my Serena-my love for eternity." Her eyes misted over with tears. "Oh, Darien. . ." She got up from her chair and threw her arms around his neck, and they embraced tightly. "Thank you. . .it's the most beautiful thing I ever received."
"Beauty for a beauty. I love you so much. . ."
He put the necklace on her. She swore to never take it off.
- Sailor Mac, "NegaNagano."

Title: Rock Seven promo poster
Medium: Graphite on paper, computer-enhanced
© May, 1998 Mark Berger
Notes: After I created the picture of the Girl with White Eyes (now known as Sakura Ryouzaki), I had a vision of a series based around her adventures in a far-future world.  Thus was born Rock Seven, my first truly original anime-style fictional series.

Description: Caught up in a fight that she didn't want, and searching for a past that she can't remember, Sakura Ryouzaki must join forces with six other young people on the run from forces that seem greater than themselves.  Together they will fight for freedom and learn some of the truths about life, love and memory.

Rock Seven: Sakura and Teruo
Medium: Pencil on paper
© May 1998 Lady M. Harris
Notes: The first picture of Sakura I've gotten from another artist - and what a picture it is, YOW!  And in the background is Teruo Minamisawa, a Ranger and (as you can probably tell) Sakura's main love interest.  Come to think of it, I've gotta get my own picture of Sakura and Teruo posted soon.

Title: Sara in a Sunbeam
Medium: Graphite and ink on paper
March, 1998
Notes: Sara Thunder is my Cyberpunk character.  She's a solo, and a catgirl.  Here we see her in a relaxed moment, for the time being totally at peace with the world around her.

Description: Sara, indulging her feline side, naps in a sunbeam.

Title: Sara Thunder
Medium: Graphite on Paper
March, 1998
Notes: This was my first good picture of ubersolo Sara Thunder.

Description: A crack shot with a handgun (the almost-unnoticeable bulge under her left armpit is her CZ75 series one handgun), Sara Thunder has a very discriminating taste in all of the finest aspects of life.

More pictures will be added as I scan them.
