Notes: The excellent performance of the YMS-52 Odysseus Test Type intrigued Republic High Command, which became interested in acquiring a modified version of this excellent vehicle for use as a commander-issue Mekton.  The fact that by doing this, the officers would then be nearly indistinguishable from the soldiers they commanded was a major incentive - in most Mekton battles, the obvious mecha piloted by the officers singled them out to intense and aggressive attack by enemy pilots.  The Odysseus Commander Type returned many of the features of the prototype, including the escape pod and advanced chobham armor, and retained the popular GreatWhite missiles and Vulcan-IV autocannon of the original model.

An improved powerplant was mounted on the MS-52O and the A version's lighter energy weaponry was replaced by a heavier beam rifle and more powerful beam katana.  To date, the MS-52O has seen relatively low distribution amongst the Republic's forces, but given its preliminary popularity, this should soon change.

Variants: The MS-52O is itself a variant of the MS-52 Odysseus.  So far, the deletion of an obvious "Commander's Model" Mekton Armor has not been mourned by senior pilots.

Distinguished Pilot: The Odysseus has been in service for less than a year; no pilots have yet managed to distinguish themselves in this craft.  However, given its performance characteristics, this is likely to soon change.
