Nam Han Song Sang is Korean for 'Southern Fortress.' The
fortress is located southwest of the capital city of Seoul. You can
actually reach the entrance of the fortress by subway.
The fortress is buold upon a hill... To get there from the subway
stop, a hike of over a mile is required. Make sure whatever ego you
brought along to leave it at home. While the hike is steep and
strenuous, there are many elderly Korean citizens who make the hike
look like a stroll in the park. One of the many resources of the hike
is an ample supply of fresh mountain water. Many people from around
the city make the hike with 10 gallon containers on luggage carts...
The last photograph on this page shows stacks of stones... I can't
remember the Korean word for this, but the concept is to build the
pile higher and higher without knocking it over. You are obliged to
place a stone or rock on the stack... To do so is good luck. To
knock it over... Well, you get the idea.
In the first photograph that's me second from the right... The couple
on each side is Pehji and Linda Khan... Talk about a small world, I
knew them while living in Heidelberg, Germany.
