I would imagine by now that if you didn't know how to use a search engine, you wouldn't be reading this, my writers' resource page. It goes without saying how large a place the Internet is. And anyone who has ever used a search engine at least once will readily testify how bewildering, if not outright impossible, navigating the Internet can be.

Luckily, there are many Web surfers who take the time to find pertinent links and post them on their homepages. But what I have not been able to find is a good-sized page of links to literary agents online. Of course, Writersnet.net is the one notable exception but the page that I'm endeavoring to construct is not only more aesthetically pleasing but one that puts the agents' pages and email addresses on one large page. This is the result of much research into nonfee-charging, fiction agents with homepages or at least email addresses. The links you'll see below are periodically tested for viability. Please be advised, however, that this list of agents with homepages and websites is far from complete. These are just the results from a few hours of research on Writersnet and other places. I hope that you're also under the correct assumption that your project is already complete and polished as much as it can possibly be. Agents' time is money and they do not appreciate being pestered by wannabes who submit mss with typos and coffee stains all over them. You might want to access this page before continuing.

If you'll notice, I've also included some interesting links to sites concerned with writing and the business aspect of it, including a watchdog site or two on questionable agents. That said, take a look below and start clicking!

Of course, it goes without saying that before you begin contacting agents, the best weapon against being exploited is to educate yourself to some of the realities of legitimate and immoral literary representation. The following websites are a good place to start.

The AAR's Official Website.

A great launchpad site for anyone looking into the nuts and bolts of literary representation. My pal A. C. Crispin is a pit bull for the SFWA and chews and spits out bad agents. Also, click here for some eye-opening cases.

For topnotch industry news. All writers should visit this site.

Goodstory.com, for the time being, a free manuscript placement service still in betatesting.

A manuscript placement service.

Authorlink!, probably the most famous placement service on the Web, but they charge a nominal fee.

The Nebraska Center for Writer's agent page, full of great links.

The National Writer's Union's official website.

Another good writers' link.

Check this out, too.

Enjoy! Let me know what you think. My email address is Crawman2@Yahoo.com
