The planet that moves in a path between Mercury and the earth is Venus. Venus is about as big as the earth. Next to the moon, Venus is the brightest thing you can see in the sky on some nights. It is called "the evening star." It is not a star though, but a planet. In early morning it is seen as "the morning star."
It has been found that a thick layer of clouds covers Venus. However, it is thought that this planet has deserts and mountains as does the earth. It is also thought that Venus has very little water or oxygen.
Venus has no moons. Period of revolution: 224.7 days. Period of rotation: 243 days (reverse motion). It is believed that some giant object in space may have struck Venus, causing it to rotate in reverse. Main components of atmosphere: carbon dioxide. Temperatures: Day 527°C; Night 327°C.
