FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
POSTAL INFORMATION AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Los Angeles residents can now get postal information 24
hours a day -- just by picking up the phone.
Postal Answer Line, a new customer information system,
provides recorded responses to mail-related questions and computes
postage rates for commonly used services.
Los Angeles customers who live in Zip Code areas 90000 to
90099 can dial toll free (213) 587-6142 twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week, by using a touch tone telephone.
For residents in Zip Codes 90024, 25, 34, 49, 64, 66, 67, 73
and 77, the toll-free number is (213) 272-6162.
An introductory message instructs the user to press a
3-digit number which corresponds to the desired service. The
caller can follow the system's recorded instructions or refer to
a message directory which has been delivered to all addresses in
the 90000-90099 Zip Code areas.
The Postal Answer Line service offers information on a wide
range of postal topics including post office locations, delivery
options, services and prices, mailing of valuables, proof of
delivery, forwarding, and consumer protection. It will also
provide special announcements such as postal holiday information
and special services provided on April 15 for income tax
deadlines.
The rate calculation segment of Postal Answer Line can
calculate the rate of all First Class and Priority packages up to
5 pounds and most Fourth Class parcels up to 15 pounds.
