My Dark One surprised me today
I'm not sure what I should say
It's one of his dark secrets
I'm sure I should keep it.
He changed before my very eyes
This man of mystery and surprise
He was not at all the man I knew
His face elongated as it grew.
See in the woods we rode along
Spotting some wolves he said, "Go alone"
I rode a short distance, then reigned
Dismounted and braved the terrain.
He stood among the wolfen pack
I was scared they would attack
He stripped and got down on all fours
Long hair started coming from his pores.
In wolfen form he sniffed the air
Somehow he knew I was there
He fixed my position with reddened eyes
I had to bite fingers to stifle cries.
I turned and ran back to my horse
And rode like the devil to our house
I could feel breath at the nape of my neck
Oh god, please let me make it back!
Later that night he entered our room
And peered at me through the gloom
I tried to feign sleep
Though my heart pounded double its beat.
I felt him climb unto the bed
And heard his voice inside my head
No lashing or beating did I get
The only thing he whispered was "forget."
But I didn't.
