Egyptian Lore

From as far back as man can find, the Egyptians were practicers of magic. They used a variety of other items to promote thier magic.

Magical Stones or Amulets, Magical Figures, Magical Pictures and Formulae, Spells, Magical Names, Magical Ceremonies and the like. Their magical practices were unique and highly developed. Magic was their religion, and the gods their tools. They used their magic for good as well as evil intent. Against friend and foe alike.

Let me tell you a little about the Egyptian gods, their names and what they represent. This list is by far not the entire spectrum, but these are some of the more remembered ones.

ISIS--The Throne
She is the most well known of the ancient Egyptian gods. She is still worshipped to this day. She is known to be the mother of everything, but also as the giver of death. She is wife to Osiris.

OSIRIS--King of the dead
He is the consort of Isis and had a very large following of worshipers. He was killed by Isis's brother and later brought back to life by her. He then became the judge of the underworld.

RA--Father of the gods
He is also known as the sun god. In his younger years he reigned peacefully over the gods and men, but as he got older he became senile and the people revolted, which caused him to react violently, until placated.

THOTH--The great measurer
He was identified as the moon-god. Patron of science and literature, wisdom and invention, and the spokesman of the gods and keeper of their records.

The Egyptians took their rituals and techniques surrounding the death ceremonies very seriously . They beleived that the spirit could actually come back into the body and reanimate it, but in the underworld. The ceremony for "opening the mouth" was the most used, because they (the dead) had to be able to recite the rest of the spells in order to have control over the gods. They beleived that they could control their gods with words of power in order that they might be judged worthy to travel to the next realm retaining their power and wealth.

The use of amulets and symbols, properly imbued with power thru ceremonies, were used as well, in order that the desired effect would happen.
Here is a example of some of these.
