Some readers will no doubt balk at the inclusion of this writer's work. My position will become clear enough, and in truth, he and I are
diametrically opposed on one issue, and that is on the issue of God. God often figures in the impotent background of Stephen King's work.
A figure to be hated, and at times it is as if it is not God but the mere idea of God that Stephen King hates. This is, I think, an honest
reaction. We have dispossessed our 'selves' of our creator, and often run around like wounded puppies, exactly because we cannot stand the
pain that this dispossession has created. King has over and over again criticized God, and why is that? It is because he is not at peace.
It is because the pain has not gone away. And I submit to you that the pain cannot go away until like Darwin we recapitulate our stand
in recognition of our Creator and take action to repossess ourselves in Him. Sometimes King, himself, seems to be on the verge of this.
My point is this (and I am speaking to 'people' here): everyone deserves a chance. We are not, ourselves, God.
