Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind |
This is a Miyazaki film. Need I say more? I do? Rats. I figured this
one would be easy to review. Anyways...
In a few short centuries, industrial civilization had spread from the
western fringes of Eurasia to sprawl across the face of the planet. Plundering
the soil of its riches, fouling the air, and remolding life forms at will. This
Gargantuan Industrial society had already peaked a thousand years after
its foundation : ahead lay abrupt and violent decline. The cities burned,
welling up as clouds of poison in the war remembered as the Seven
Days of Fire. The complex and sophisticated technological superstructure
was lost; almost all the surface of the Earth was transformed into a sterile
wasteland. Industrial civilization was never rebuilt as mankind lived on
through the long twilight years ...
The earth was covered by forest of enormous fungi
which exhaled a poisonous miasma called the Sea of Corruption. Scattered
throughout the tiny parcels of land remaining at the periphery of
the Sea of Corruption are the kingdoms people have created in which to
lived. Here lies the valley of Wind - a kingdom of barely five hundred
subjects; a small nation granted only frail protection against the poisons
of the Sea of Corruption by the ocean breezes ...
Nausicaä, the princess of The Valley of the
Wind, discovers through her own research, that the Sea of Corruption is
actually purifying the earth of the poisons left over from the Seven
Days
of Fire. When the Valley of the Wind is occupied by the Torumekians
in their efforts to revive the God Warrior, Nausicaä is taken hostage
where she finds herself drawn into a senseless war.
Her affinity with the giant insects of the poison swamp and
her insight in the important role that nature has in purifying the earth
are the only real weapon she has in adverting a catastrophy
Thus her adventure begins ...
Neon Genesis Evangelion |
The year is 2015, as the remnants of the human race cower in subterranean
cities, a deadly war is being waged for what is left of the planet, and
humankind's fate. On one side are the mysterious beings known only as Angels;
on the other, the special agency NERV and mankind's last hope, the awe-inspiring
Evangelions. Piloted by a special team of young warriors, these giant bio-mechanical
humanoids are the only thing that can withstand the force of the Angels'
defense fields long enough for the pilots to to tackle the massive invaders
themselves in close hand to hand combat! With the lives of every living
thing on the planet and the pilot's souls at stake, these few youngsters
must reach deep inside themselves to find the strength and courage necessary
to meet the angels head on in a desperate attempt to save mankind. At the
same time, NERV struggles to pierce the veil of mystery surrounding the
enigmatic angels. Why was Earth attacked? And why were the only Evangelion-qualified
pilots born exactly nine months after half the human race was massacred
in Second Impact? Mankind's last battle has begun.
Here's a VERY serious anime, and the BEST I've seen! Very controversial,
it questions what it is like to be human. In the earlier stages of this
series, it is more of a Giant robot beat-em-up, but with a great sense
of mystery involved. When it progresses, it shows more aspects of the main
character's lives, and shows the painful toll of a strange way of life
through the characters. Undertaking aspects of insanity, murder, death,
life, neglect, and the greatest mystery of all is the series itself. It
has it's humorous moments, but creates a great deal of sense with it's
serious states. This is Anime at it's greatest artistic peak.

Evangelion: Death and Rebirth |
This is the first of 3 Evangelion movies. The first half, "Death" is
a re-cap of the entire series. The recap isn't good for people who have
never seen the tv series before, so, before you watch any of the Eva movies,
please watch the TV series, or you'll be completely lost. This re-cap isn't
entirely stupid, it adds new scenes, and new animation. It focuses on the
3 main characters, Shinji, Asuka, Rei, and it even focuses some attention
on Kaworou. It also re-caps all the mysteries revealed in the TV series,
as well as Evangelion Units 00, 01, 02 and 03.
"Rebirth" is entirely new. But it is the first 20
minutes of the second movie, "The End of Evangelion." At the end of Rebirth
it also plays that EXCELLENT song, Tamashii no Ruferan. (Soul Refrain)
It doesn't play this song in "The End of Evangelion."

The End of Evangelion | The End of Evangelion |
This is the second of the 3 movies. Also, do not watch this unless you
have seen the TV series, or you will be totally lost. I can't say much
anything about this movie, as I do not want to give away ANY of the plot,
because it is SO surprising! The first 20 minutes of this movie are from
the last 20 of Death and Rebirth. This is also the BEST anime I have ever
seen, and the animation rivals that of AKIRA. Basically, this movie is
the alternate ending to the last 2 tv episodes, and it was so good. I have
not seen a better anime. This was GOOD. And now I could ramble on
about how much I love the Eva series. But I won't, I'm sure you don't want
to hear it. Anyway, this movie concludes it all, wrapping it all up about
what happens to all of the characters.

Ninja Cadets! |
This is a neat story about 5 young Ninja's about to begin their final test to become fully fledged ninja's. The fights are neat, and the comedy is cool. Mixed in with magic and Mecha, it has many unexpected happenings. My only gripe about this 2 episode OVA is that there is no complete closure. It leaves an opening for a sequel.
