Vietnam War, Veterans, & Memorials Links

The Vietnam Era Educational Center has been designed to complement and enhance the beauty and meaning of the adjacent New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial. It will inform visitors of life on the front lines, as well as the events that were unfolding back in the United States. The focal point of the Educational Center will be the mural-like timeline that spans the entire wall of the 5,000-sq.ft., circular-shaped exhibition area. The timeline, complete with photographs and descriptive text, provides a chronology of the war, and places the political and military activities in Southeast Asia within the context of the social and cultural events occuring simultaneously in America. Augmenting the timeline will be displays with original photos, letters and personal items -- all which draw focus to the experiences and prespectives of individual participants in this important chapter of American and world history. The Center will also feature a personal-testimony video theater, a multi-purpose room, and a multi-media resource center. Interactive presentations, lectures and special programs allow more in-depth study of the Vietnam era. The Vietnam Era Educational Center is the first project of its kind anywhere. This dynamic and thought-provoking learning environment will help visitors understand and appreciate the significance of the Memorial, the realities of the conflict, and the social, political and cultural complexities of the Vietnam era. Grand Opening is scheduled for September 1998. Y'all come.
