STORY
BEHIND THE POEM THE DEMONSTRATION
.
On this occasion, I was already at
home after work watching the news. I saw an article about a demonstration
that had occurred outside of headquarters. About 50 people were protesting
the "treatment" given a young lady in police custody.
.
She claimed that she had been grabbed
off the street for no reason and thrown in a room. There she claimed to
be chained to the floor and questioned relentlessly by the same Detectives
for twenty four hours. She claimed they were asking her about "The Squamish
Five", a notorious terrorist group which had been responsible for blowing
up several buildings.
.
Unfortunately, I knew the real story
of her captivity, although the press never would. This innocent lass, had
been found lying in the street in a large mud puddle. She was absolutely
dead drunk and was obviously a very experienced drinker and alcoholic.
She had been picked up for her own protection and taken to the drunk tank
where she was held for a period of four hours to sober up.
.
The cells she described don’t even
exist. We don’t have a room where people can be tied to the floor. Detectives
at the time worked a ten hour shift, not 24 as she claimed. Of course the
big question that needed to be asked is why would they be questioning her
about the Squamish Five, who had been arrested and convicted for their
crimes and were already in jail. In fact one member of that gang was close
to being paroled by the time this incident occurred.
.
Just one more case of a lying complainant,
talking to the press about police treatment and the press believing the
story without bothering to check on the facts.
