Hard Work Don't Count
For Anything! It's plain as plain can be,
If you want a case scenario,
you need only look at me.
I went to Crime Prevention,
to cut down the local crime,
Thinking hard, inventing
programs, working overtime.
.
Public lectures were
the standard, consults by the score,
Against crime and lowly
criminals, we were declaring war.
Ever ready for the challenge,
each day I'd start anew,
To do my job as best
I could, the bosses thought so too.
.
When Community Relations,
needed someone for McGruff,
Guess who it was who
volunteered, for that and other stuff?
You guessed it! I was
right there. Glad to do my part,
To help another program,
get the proper start.
.
Beyond the call of duty,
I worked hard throughout the year,
Teaching local citizens,
helping quell their fear.
To stretch this message
further, I even faced the press,
A Crime Prevention column,
got me in this mess.
.
I gave tips to all the
people, through the Western News,
It ran for several months
and received some rave reviews.
People phoned the office,
with a need to get involved,
They strengthened home
security, crimes were being solved.
.
The column then expanded,
in the second week of May,
Now the whole South
side, could read what I would say.
To print out all these
articles, cost me more than time,
It was also costing
money, to help prevent a crime.
.
So I earned some money,
ten dollars for each one,
Not enough to pay for,
supplies when I was done.
So how did they repay
me, for all these extra chores?
Back on the beat, I
slowly cruise, checking open doors.
.
So hard work don't count
for nothing, I say this now for sure,
Just write up my ten
tickets, I finally learned the score.
If you go out and do
nothing, there's no trouble to be had,
For working hard is
the way to make, half the bosses mad.
