Get A Handle On It

.
Detectives Brown and Borevich, were working on a case,
Involving thefts from auto, a crime that's hard to trace.
But on this day, a lucky break, a tip to follow through,
A suspect had been fingered, it was something they could do.
.
A look through all the case files, for crimes to tie him in,
All the loose ends tied up, to make sure that they could win.
When all the ground work, was complete, the paperwork was set,
The only job remaining was, the suspect, go and get.
.
So with an unmarked unit, the boys had started out,
They soon would have their suspect, there never was a doubt.
Sure enough, the guy was home, they moved in for the kill,
When he was in custody, it gave them such a thrill.
.
He exercised his legal right, to call his own mouthpiece,
And to do so with some privacy, away from the police.
A cuff went through the handle, of a dresser there that day,
The other locked the suspect arm, to be sure that he would stay.
.
Phone call made, the suspect done, it was time to go to jail,
Bruce took out a set of keys, alas to no avail,
Neither had a handcuff key, would be the lame excuse,
Given to the suspect there, no way to get him loose,
.
Finally with a screwdriver, the handle was detached,
The boys took in two prisoners, a knob with knob attached.
So now when ribbed about this day, the boys can take their time,
Explain to all who listen, they have a "handle" on this crime.
