My Dad
.
Life is made of changes,
as years march quickly past,
Some friendships are quite
fleeting, others made to last.
But, of those that last
forevermore, there really is just one,
The lasting bond between
the two, a father and his son.
.
They start out when a babe
in arms, is presented to his Dad,
The newborn son, his pride
and joy, the feelings that he had.
As the son grows older,
and the toddler starts to walk,
"Dad" the first word spoken,
when he learns to talk.
.
Great pals, are the two
of them, as the son now gets his start,
Pitching baseballs, flying
kites, or taking things apart.
He wears his Daddy's jacket,
stands proudly in his shoes,
But knows it will be many
years, until he's paid his dues.
.
The teenage years are difficult,
a stubborn streak in each,
Rarely seeing eye to eye,
no agreements can they reach.
This will pass, as each
stage does, they start to turn the page,
Their relationship grows
stronger, as each gets on in age.
.
The bonding done, in early
life, begins to reappear,
Son now understanding, what
his father had to fear.
He knows too of the love
for him, his Daddy has inside,
Although, it stays unspoken,
it is difficult to hide.
.
While passing days, turn
into weeks, then months and on to years,
The father's son, now has
a son, and the cloudiness now clears.
Of what his Dad experienced,
when the son was just a lad,
The hopes and worries held
inside, and all the love he had.
.
Now we've come full cycle,
daddy bonds with son,
The son now close to father,
as time keeps marching on.
The words may go unspoken,
as you know they sometimes do,
I know the feeling is inside,
so remember, I Love You.
