Car Chase

.
Barry Mac, a veteran of, twenty years or so,
The Acting Sergeant for his squad, and always on the go.
MacDonald and his crew were out, on some very busy nights,
Responding to the robberies, drunks and bar room fights.
.
He used to be in Traffic, has made lots of routine stops,
And always sets examples for, us "younger, junior" cops.
Now the plot has thickened, Barry was on the air,
Broadcasting he was following, a violator there.
.
He's going east on Hastings, this guy is on his way,
The car keeps moving forward, he just will not obey.
Still moving east, not going fast, he will not call a halt,
The suspect keeps on moving, I'm sure it's all his fault.
.
Why is he, ignoring me, thought Barry with a sigh,
Is he drunk, a fleeing crook, or just a stupid guy?
Now, should I call a Code Four, and log this as a chase,
Or follow him, in case it's not, then meet him face to face?
.
Still eastbound out on Hastings, the car still on the run,
Why won't he stop, thought Barry, does he have a knife or gun?
These thoughts all running through his head, as cover units came,
All getting in the lineup, to play the car chase game.
.
A unit somewhere down the line, broadcast by radio,
Hey Barry! Put your lights on, see if he wants to go.
With a shock then Barry realized, just what he had to do,
He calmly flipped the switches, then used the siren too.
.
Barry had been chasing, with his overheads not on,
An impaired, whose brain was pickled, his senses mostly gone.
But still the guy, knew deep inside, when he saw the cop,
Until he saw those red and blues, he did not have to stop.
