It Was Twenty Years Ago, Today...
.
March Tenth of
Nineteen Seven Five, a new class just begun,
One hundred plus,
fresh new recruits, the members of Class One.
Men and women
gathered round, bedlam reigned supreme,
We ranged in
age from thirty-one, to babies of nineteen.
.
Suddenly through
all the noise, a voice was heard to yell,
Everyone form
into ranks, and into line we fell.
The Chief and
all his entourage, moved quickly into view,
To give the "Oath
of Office", to an eager waiting crew.
.
Then it all was
over, civilian life was done,
Police recruits,
each one of us, had only just become.
Through the next
two decades, time marching quickly by,
There have been
many changes, and retirement is nigh.
.
From Recruits
to full fledged members, throughout our long careers,
We have gone
through many stages, as we added up the years.
Nevermore the
pisskids, we have passed through all those doors,
The kids around
here call us all, three digit dinosaurs.
.
We still have
time ahead of us, a chance to be our best,
A lifetime of
experience, has helped us pass the test.
So remember now
with fondness, the times of yesterday,
And think about
the time to come, before going on our way.
.
Remember too,
Rob Johnson, who we lost so early on,
As long as we
remember him, he's never really gone.
Congratulations
to us all, for Twenty years now done,
Through trials
and tribulations, we've sure had lots of fun.
