SISDELS GROOVE - Mandorico
Mandorico – Elbow Room on August 5, 1999

If you take note of the recent musical offerings at Elbow Room in 5 Points, you will realize there has been a dramatic turnaround in recent months. Due to a change in ownership and management we are seeing acts working this club that would have never gotten the chance to play there before. We can thank Trey Lofton, the talent buyer for Elbow and also it’s sister venue New Brookland Tavern, for bringing in musical talent that we actually want to go out and see.

A prime example of one of those bands that never would have made it past the review committee (aka Vance) at Elbow before the transition is Atlanta based Mandorico. These classically trained musicians serve up a sizzling salsa stage show that encourages plenty of audience participation. Their spicy blend of Latin ska has been featured on MTV’s Road Rules Latin America and they will be a showcasing artist at this year’s Atlantis Music Conference along with over 190 other bands. I think after seeing one performance and reviewing their list of credits you will agree this band is worthy of a headlining show at Elbow Room and beyond.

Mandorico consists of 6 guys and one female that can definitely wail – on her horn and with her own pipes. She is the newest addition to the band and her chemistry with frontman and band leader, Jesse, on stage only adds to the band’s appeal. The members have a certain understood respect for each other’s individual talents that is quite obvious during their performance. Their ability to blend all of their unique styles of music speaks very clearly of their professionalism. They absolutely shine on stage.

They have a new independently released cd out next month as well as a previously self-released cd titled Familiar Places. If ska has gotten boring to you then this is just the change you need. Mandorico is not your usual ska, but something far better.
