MAJOR ICE DANCE CHANGES

New ISU disc of the compulsory dances have been produced all with 8 bar introductions which must be used at all international competitions or Championships and will be available by August 1, 1998.

ORIGINAL DANCE CHANGES

Rhythm - Waltz [Any tempo, any character]

 

Dance spin [pirouettes] is a spin skated by the couple together in known dance hold or variation thereof [except hand in hand]. It should be performed on the spot around the same axis with one foot of each partner remaining on the ice throughout.

 

Only music with a rhythmic beat may be used.

 

Vocal music is permitted.

 

Up to 4 small lifts of no more than one revolution executed in dance position by one of he partners may be included. Also one pirouette [maximum 5 revolutons] may be included [ not considered a stop].

 

One stop must not exceed 10 seconds in duration. The stop must not be performed during the required step sequence.

 

Skating with a hand or hands on the ice is not permitted.

 

New Required Elements

One dance lift but not more than two dance lifts in total.

EITHER one circular step sequence, utilizing full width of the ice surface in closed, tango and/or open positions [two different positions required] incorporating threes, twizzles and brackets for both partners. OR one diagonal step sequence going fully corner to corner in closed, tango and/or open positions [two different positions required] with deep curves incorporating rockers, counters, choctaws, and mohawks and other steps as [defined in Rule 504] for both partners.

FREE DANCE CHANGES

Acceptable music must have an audible rhythmic beat and melody, or audible rhythmic beat alone, but not melody alone. Therefore,

     A. Music intended for use on the stage or in the theater is permitted. This includes dance music from ballets, musicals, operas and operettas.

     B. Music from all kinds of folk dances is permitted.

     C. Vocal music using lyrics is not permitted. However, the use of the voice or background musical effects that are considered as being expressive of a particular type of folk music is permitted. Additions of the sounds of applause or cheers are not permitted.

 

Separations to execute intricate footwork are allowed.

Number permitted - 5 for Seniors, 3 for Juniors. Duration: 5 seconds

Not Permitted: Skating with a hand [or hands- on the ice.]

 

FOLLOWING ELEMENTS MUST BE INCLUDED

Lifts:

Senior - 5 different lifts but no more than 7 in total, 2 of which will be specified.

Junior - 3 different lifts but not more than 5 in total, 1 of which will be specified.

 

Pirouettes:

Senior - 3 pirouettes but not more than 5 [of at least 4 revolutions but not more than 7] 1 of which will be specified.

Junior - 2 pirouettes but not more than 4 [of at least 3 revolutions, but not more than 5] 1 one of which will be specified.

 

Twizzles for each partner

Senior: Minimum of 4

Junior: Minimum of 3

 

Two Step Sequences

for both Senior and Junior, one circular and one diagonal, fully utilizing the ice surface

 a. One in Closed and/or Open position

 b. The other in optional varied dance holds incorporating mohawks, choctaws, rockers, counters and other steps as defined in Rule 504.

 

The specified elements for the 1998/1999 Season are as follows:

Lifts:

Senior - 1 lift with a minimum of one rotation for the lifting partner.

              1 lift with at least one change of position for the lifted partner

Junior - 1 lift with a minimum of one rotation for both partners.

 

Pirouettes:

Senior & Junior - both partners in symmetrical positions [matching or mirror]

 

Assisted Jumps are deleted

 

Deductions Under Technical Merit: 0.1 per violation of required technical elements except for the step sequences which range from 0.1 to 0.4

Deduction is made from the first mark. It may also be reflected in the second mark if, in the case of the Free Dance
