Ah, Fushigi Yuugi. For the past two years
(approximately), I have been engaged in a love-hate relationship with this
series. Conclusion- the stuff about it that's good is pretty good,
what's bad is awful. And that is true of Fushigi Yuugi music.
The Prologue is basically an extremely long intro
to "Wandering". Believe it or not, I like this song. It's very
ominous and... damn, I am so sick of TENORS! EVERY SINGLE BOY I KNOW
IS A TENOR! ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
Anyway, Furusawa Tohru is soooooo not a tenor,
he's either a bass or baritone. His voice matches the song so much
it's kinda hard to hear. "Never Get Away" is a very 80's sounding
song sung by Suboshi. It's scary, but Ueda Yuuji and Kanemaru Jun'ichi
(Ginta of Marmalade Boy) sound almost the same when the sing. I prefer
Ueda Yuuji, in part because this song is pretty awesome. It's very
angry, and like, the instruments are cool. "Pride of Ice" rocks.
It's got lots of brass instruments in it, and Tanaka Atsuko is such a good
singer! The thing is, there's this one part that sounds kinda like
Irish music, and so I get this weird picture of Soi being "LORD OF THE
DANCE!". All I have to say about the next track ("For My Darling")
is that it just isn't good without the words. It's actually kind
of annoying that way. Speaking of annoying... no, I'm kidding.
Araki Kae, voice of Sailor Chibi-Moon, is singing this song. I used
to love this song when I idolized Miaka. Now it's fair... she's done
better. The song is pretty catchy, with all the brass sections, and
the
repetition of words. But really, if you're having one of those "I
don't want to hear a first soprano sing", skip it. The next song,
"Nocturne" is creepy, but only because I find Amiboshi satanically evil
and bad. It sounds very much like FFII (US) music, because there's
lots of woodwind and a harp. Ueda Yuuji sounds exactly the same as
Suboshi, except this song lacks any sort of emotion that "Never Get Away"
possesed. "Please Shiver" is a pretty funky song. It's worth
it just to hear Tanaka Atsuko sing- she's great, really she is. The
music is very... er, seductive-sounding, which suits Soi. Then there's
the instrumental version of the ending song, and I say the same about this
song as I did about the instrumental of the instrumental of the opening
theme. The next track, "Legacy" is surprising, not just because it's
Hotohori, emperor of Konan-koku singing on a Seiryuu CD, but because it's
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool! It's a very big song, very powerful
and emotion filled. It brings tears to my eyes. And now, the
track everyone is nuts about, "Sad Gales" better known as "Aoi Arashi".
(Hey, sad=blue, gale= storm). It's a very depressing song, and it's
very creepy. Great to listen to when you're pissed off. It
doesn't really do much for me ever since I started taking prozac.
One of my favorite tracks on the CD is the next one "Seiryuu God Unsealing".
It's basically an orchestral version of "Wandering" without the singing.
The last track is "Blue Eyes... Blue". It's pretty infamous, but
it's not that bad. I think it has nice lyrics. This is definitely
the FY CD to buy.
